"Eric is keeping a party on Friday. Are you going?" Jasmine asked me the following week in English class.

"I don't know, Jaz. I have to think about it." I said, looking across at her. The teacher had given us a task to do and was currently at his desk grading papers.

"Come on. It will be fun." She said, then smiled mischievously. "Maybe Carson will be there."

I frowned at her. "What does Carson have to do with me?" I asked.

"You're into him. I know you would want to see him." She replied smiling.

"I don't know what you are seeing, but I'm not into him." I replied firmly.

"Sure you are. You guys went to the fair together last week. That must mean something." She stated. "Kayla, you're my best friend, I know you. But if you don't want to accept it yet, I understand."

I rolled my eyes at Jasmine's weird theory. "Whatever you say, Jasmine. Okay, I'll go." Jasmine smile at me and went back to her work. I shook my head and continued my work as well.

After lunch, I was walking to my class, when I run into Eli in the hallway. He waved when he saw me.

"Hey Kayla." He greeted, stopping in front of me.

"Hi Eli." I said with a smile. Eli and Jasmine have been going out together a lot lately and I could tell that he really likes her. As for Jasmine, she doesn't stop talking about him.

"I have to get to class. If you see Jasmine, tell her hi for me." He said as he turned away.

"Okay, I will." Before he could go, I stopped him. "Eli wait." He stopped and turned back around to face me. "You like Jasmine, don't you?"

He looked at me, shock by my bluntness, but then he smiled. "Yes I do."

I smiled at his response. "Good. That's good." I said, then changed my tone of voice. "But, if you break her heart, just remember that I will break you."

The smile still remained on his face. "Duly noted. Don't worry, you won't have a problem with that."

I smiled again. "Okay, see you around Eli."

"Bye." He waved at me and turned around to go to his class.

School had ended and Carson wasn't going to tutor me today, so I went straight home.

When I got home, I opened the front door and was shock by the mess in the living room. Everything that was on top of the bookshelf was on the floor and books were scattered everywhere. Broken glasses and vase were scattered on the floor and everything else was out of order.

What happened here?

Through the mess, I noticed a white envelope on top of the coffee table. Curiosity got the better of me, so I tiptoed over the broken glasses on the floor and walked over to the coffee table. I took up the envelop quickly and slipped out the letter that was inside. The address that was on top of the page, was the company where Allan works.

I scanned the contents quickly. My eyes widen at what I read. The letter was long and detailed, but one line caught my attention.

...your employment with Smith Corporation is terminated effective immediately...

What the fiddle sticks?

Allan lost his job?

Well, he caused this on himself, I thought to myself as I read on. The executive directors didn't see him fit to continue with work, because of his drinking habits. It has even affected the proper management of the company.

I jumped in shock as I heard a crashing sound coming from the kitchen. In quick concession, I heard another crash followed by a loud bang. I placed the letter back in the envelop quickly and put it back on the coffee table. I didn't know Allan was in the kitchen, I though he was in his bedroom.

Before I could move and head up the stairs, Allan appeared at the doorway to the kitchen. His eyes were red and bloodshot. His nose was flaring as he breathed heavily. He was extremely drunk and angry. He was like the Incredible Hulk. His whole presence took over the entire room.

His eyes darted to me and I took a step back in fear. I could feel the anger radiating off him in waves. Terrified wasn't even close to how I was feeling right now.

"You!" Allan shouted, pointing his finger at me. "Get over here now!"

"No," I said, shaking my head. I took another step back, but I felt my back hit the wall.

"What did you say?" He asked angrily. "How dare you defy me?!" He roared.

I didn't say anything more. I just stood where I was. It was obvious he was angry and he needed someone to take out his anger on. His eyes took on a murderous look as he stormed towards me. My heart started to race and I was frozen with fear. Even if I wasn't, I didn't have anywhere to run anyway. I was far from the front door and the stairs.

"Allan, please don't do this." I begged, even though I know he won't listen to me. He never had pity on me before. He was really angry. I don't even want to think about what he would do to me.

"Shut up, you little bitch!" He shouted, slapping me hard across my face.

I held my cheek as it began to sting. I looked down at the floor, afraid to stare into his cold eyes. He then used his hands to grab my chin roughly. His grip was so tight, that I had to close my eyes against the pain.

"Look at me!" He shouted, twisting my head up to face him. He then held my head and slammed it against the wall. I became dizzy and lost my balance. I fell to the floor with a thud, hitting my head a second time. My head started to throb and my vision became blotchy. Tears were now streaming down my cheeks.

My body was bursting with pain and I began to sob. I tried to crawl away, but it was no use. I didn't get anywhere. Allan came over to me and kicked me on my thighs, legs and stomach. I couldn't do anything. All I could do was cover my hands over my face and take the beatings.

For the next two minutes, I have become his punching bag. My body was too weak to even move anymore. All I could do was cry, hoping that this nightmare would end soon.

Allan had become tired of hitting me and finally he stopped. He staggered back towards the kitchen, leaving me alone. I slid myself over to the couch and rest my back on it. My entire body was shaking and rocking with my sobs. I wrapped my arms around my knees and just sat there crying.

Tears of pain, tears of fear, tears of hopelessness and tears of sorrow.
