Peter
"You look ni—" I started to say to MJ, but she slammed the door behind her. I took a deep breath. Okay. I had to do this. Man up, Parker. It's now or never.
I went to knock, but the door swung open before I could.
"Oh!" MJ said.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey." MJ said.
"Uh... look. Um. I'm not ready for this trip to be over yet, and I kinda wanted to do something fun that's not planned with Mr. Harrington..." I started, but I didn't need to finish.
"Yes." MJ said.
"Yes, like you want to go?" I asked, unsure of my fortune.
"Yes."
"Okay, awesome. Uh... I'll see you outside in ten minutes." I said.
"Meet me outside at five minutes." MJ answered.
"That is good." I said. "Okay. Bye."
"Bye."
. . .
"I'm not Spider man." I said. Let me just say, I did not expect this to happen. "What made you think I'm Spider man?"
"Peter, Washington?" MJ asked, smiling.
"Yeah?" I asked. My mind was racing, trying to think of possible excuses.
"Back when you, like, disappeared, out of nowhere, for no reason?"
"No, then, I was sick, remember the tummy ache..." I started, but MJ cut me off.
"You know, Susan Yang thinks you are a male escort." She said. My ears turned red.
"What? No, of course I'm not a male escort." I exclaimed. Then I realized that that was exactly what MJ wanted me to say.
"Well, then you're Spider Man." she concluded.
"No. I'm not Spider man. At all." I lied. I felt a bit bad lying to MJ, but I couldn't afford to lose my identity like this.
"What about tonight? You snuck off, fought that thing. I saw you." she said. Uh oh... how can I refute this?
"You can't have seen me, because I'm not spider man. And also, on the news, it was the...Night Monkey." I said. Great name, Ned. Thanks.
"The Night Monkey?" MJ snorted.
"Yeah. That's what it said on the news. And the news never lies." I nearly snorted too while saying this.
"Yeah, okay." MJ took off her backpack.
"What are you doing?" I asked. She unzipped it and took something out.
"Well, does the Night Monkey and Spiderman use the same webs?" MJ asked. Her power of deduction was almost intimidating. And how did she know about the same webs?
I stared at the thing. It was the thing I busted off from the Ferris wheel.
"I mean, maybe." I said. "Maybe he's a spider monkey. Who knows?" I said, although it already sounded very ridiculous.
I took a moment to realize something.
"Were you only watching me because you thought I was spider man?" I asked.
"Yeah." MJ said after a moment of silence. "Why else would I be watching you?"
"I thought that maybe—" I started, but MJ accidentally pushed a button on the thing, and it spewed blue light.
