By the next morning, Miri was standing outside the school wearing the army uniform. Her hero costume laid packed up in her backpack along with some other necessities. Her hair was tied back in two French braids, which was a different experience for her, but she kind of liked it. Anxiety crawled around her body and she found sitting still to be hard.
She was both excited and scared for whatever this internship offered. The laws in the United States were a lot more different from Japan. She'd actually be allowed to use her quirk in public without getting arrested!
A man dressed in black approached her. "Are you Mirianne Shotomoto?"
Miri looked him up, and down, deciding he looked too professional to be anything threatening. "Yes. Are you Anton Reyes?"
He smiled. "No, but I can take you to him." He held out a hand to her.
Miri stared at his hand. Steeling her nerves, she grabbed it.
"This will be weird, but I promise you it'll only last a few seconds." He gripped her hand and a swirling blue portal opened in front of them.
"What-" She asked before she was pulled into it by the strange man.
Her body felt weird after that. It felt as if it were pulled in all these different directions and she could feel the nausea building up in her.
A falling sensation filled her then. She tried to scream, but no noise was heard. She closed her eyes in terror.
Her feet touched solid ground after a few seconds. Bile rose in the back of her throat and Miri's eyes flew open, desperately searching for a garbage can.
"I'm impressed." The guy in black smiled. "Most people usually-"
Miri found a garbage can and let her breakfast come out her mouth.
"Nevermind." The man in black sighed. "Well, sir. I brought her."
A man with white hair smiled. His cool amber eyes stared at the white-and-black-haired girl. A certain warmth was visible in his eyes as he sat back in his chair in consideration. "I suppose you did."
Miri wiped her mouth and wheezed. "Oh my god...what the hell was that?" She turned to look at the man in black, but saw he had disappeared and instead was in a room with someone else.
"That was Sergeant Connors." The man with white hair addressed a chair in front of a desk. He took a seat behind said desk.
Miri walked to the seat and sat in it. "Are you Anton Reyes?" She suddenly felt self-conscious. This man...looked familiar.
"I am. You're Mirianne?"
"Yes." She fidgeted in her seat. "Uh...what did you mean when you said that I may not remember you, but you remember me?"
"Do I look familiar to you?" He asked her, leaning forward in his seat.
Miri nodded.
"Your father, Alzaro, is my son." Miri's breath caught in her throat. "Making you my-"
"Granddaughter." She gasped out, leaning forward in her seat to hold her head.
She's never met any of her grandparents. It never even occurred to ask either of her parents when she was younger about them.
"Are you...are you lying to me?" She asked, not entirely sure.
"Your father's quirk...Power-Up...and your mother's quirk...Darkness...reside in your body." He pointed out. The room started to spin around Miri.
"How is this possible? You guys don't even have the same last name!" Miri stood up from her seat, disbelief coursing through her body.
"Shotomoto is not your father's real last name. It was your mother's. Your father took her last name to hide himself away from people who threatened him. The villain who defeated him eleven years ago was looking for him for a very long time." He explained.
