The exhilarating buzz of the first day of classes seemed to hold everyone in Xavier's School for gifted Youngsters in its grasp. Not one young mutant was without a broad smile on their face, a pep in their step with a backpack slung over their shoulders.

For many, this was their first time at a school where they could freely be themselves. While many mutations did not have physical traits that were paired with capabilities, there were still many who did. Whether it be horns sprouting from the flesh above their brows. Wings of sprouting feathers or iridescent cuticles. Some students even bore completely different textures of skin, from scales to a texture similar to that of stone.

For them, they could freely walk amongst their peers without the drape of shame and anxiety that they often bore like a heavy cloak.

The excitement for others though, was this was the last first day of school. Their senior year, the final year of classes that would be spent at Xavier's School.

Such one of those was Amberle Foster.

She traversed the halls of the great mansion with ease, side stepping the sea of students that also shared her excitement. Too big backpacks and bustling excitement were easily avoided by the young mutant. Her mix-matched eyes searching through the many passing faces for a familiar enough one, whether it be one of her close friends or Scott Summers.

She had hoped to catch him before the first bell, such being an indication that students were expected to be seated in their respective classrooms. But that hope was seeming to become futile to cling to, as she neared the threshold of her first class of the day.

She didn't allow herself to simmer in the flash of disappointment that sprang from her. Not wanting to allow herself to become sour on the first day of classes. Besides, the boy often found his way to her eventually. Whether she went looking for him or not.

Likely he would be waiting for her outside her class and everything would be just.

They two had gone over their classes a few times over now. Comparing the two schedules as they sat atop Amberle's bed, text books purchased and picked up sat in stacks around the two. Along with all of their necessary school supplies. The two had joined their shared group of friends to go out and purchase their supplies. Walmart had not been prepared for the group of young mutants.

Amberle quickly spotted a familiar face in the brightly lit classroom, Jean Grey. The auburn haired girl half waved to gain her attention. Both of which smiled at the other, Amberle quickly closing the distance between the two to claim the spot to Jean's left, closest to the window.

'I am more excited to see you than I thought I would. I was desperately hoping you did not switch your classes around last minute." Amberle teased her friend, who blossomed at the ease of conversation.

"Professor Xavier showed me the roster upon request when we were discussing the possibility of switching courses around.' Jean's vibrant blue eyes held that of Amberle's own mixed matched ones, "He insisted that i take on more one on one lessons from him, but once I saw your name on the roster- I knew the class would be less dreadful because we would have one another." The mutant paused, eyes drifting towards the front of the classroom as the bell rang, "I insisted back that I remain."

Amberle's smile grew wider as the information was relayed, it felt good that Jean had insisted that she remain in the same class as her, "I am glad you were able to sway the Professor then."

The classroom door shut, indicating that class was to formally begin. Both girls averted their eyes ahead, Amberle held a bit of surprise as she spotted who was in the front.
