My name is Richard Chapman and I was born on April 8th 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa. I was a young man during the 1930's, I was just a normal guy like everyone else living life in my home state of Iowa, I was working at a restaurant until I overheard the radio about Germany marching troops into other countries, and the news anchor got another word about Japan doing the samething to Korea, China, and other countries, the next day I told my boss that I'm leaving to join the Marine Corps, he said that I was fine to join because he would do the samething, so I did join the USMC.
