August 5th - 6th

The day of the top secret mission, I was had to go back to Iwo Jima to help the US Army out with to load up this top secret bomb that they tested back in New Mexico, to bring the second world war to a end. When the 6th of August came the three B-29 Superfortress took off have the runway on Iwo Jima, the only thing that I can think of is to have the men of the US Army airforce to finish this off in the air, when we seen the two out of three planes land I knew it might be a mission failed, but when the Enola Gay radio came in around 9:00 or 10ish am we had to wait for the news from the airplane crew if the bomb worked or not, the radio operator said that the bomb had work on Hiroshima, at that moment I knew the war will be over soon or in two or three days from now. After that we had to go back to work because of the Japanese government didn't want to end the war just yet, they wanted to keep fighting on, but they didn't know that we had another secret bomb with us, and we would be loading it very soon.

August 8th - 9th

The final day of the atomic bomb running on the main land Japan it will be tomorrow on the 9th of August. When the dawn breaks we started to load the bomb onto the same B-29 Superfortress, after we did that the ground forces have to get back onto the ships in go to Okinawa to wait out the radiation in Hiroshima, it was foggy out for the bomb dropping, so we had no choice to drop it onto Nagasaki, when we heard from the President Truman that the Japanese Armed Forces final surrender to the Allies, finally the war is now over. The Japanese government had to sign the papers on the USS Missouri and I was the only Marine officer to see this in person, and hearing General Mcauther speech to the US men and Naval personnel. When we landed into Japan, we explored it, but we the older breed are going home finally. I finally be at peace with myself and the world.
