April 1st - June 15th 1945
When we landed at Oklahoma we were greeted by Japanese machinegun fire and every thing that they had to stop us, did that work no, as we push up to the Japanese position, we had to do hand to hand combat with them, after that the General wants me to do a flanking run on the Japanesse position like I did back on Tarawa or Leyte, so I did so without questioning the orders. When my men and I did that we kept firing onto the other Japanese position with their own artilleries, when the main task forces shows up and can now push up with the full force instead of a small group of men, I had a new riflemen named Zach, he was only a Corporal, I wanted to promote him to SSGT, but I want him to make me happy with him and how he can kill the enemy under my command. When the sun went down I walked up to Corporal Zach.
Me: Corporal.
Corporal Zach: Sir?
Me: I'm promoting you to SSGT okay.
Zach: Yes sir. Thank you sir.
Me: No problem SSGT now get some rest we will be moving in a few hours.
Zach: Yes Major.
As I walked to away, during the battle of Iwo Jima I got promoted twice during that battle and I didn't want to leave the battle area and have someone new to take my place in my team so I stayed and fight with my team here on Okinawa. I woke my men up and I told my commanding officer that I'll be pushing up to the next enemy position so we can take it out for them so they can move up and the area would be alot cleared for the tanks. After we took them out we waited till day for the main task force to be with us and be ready for the next. When May hit at that moment I stopped thinking about the European battle, and I just focused on this battle, when we stopped to put up a headquarters and then a runner from the fifth Marine Corps told me that the war in Europe is over that the Nazi Germany had surrendered to the allies, as I thanked him and now I have to tell my men that the war in Europe is over.
Me: Men gather around, I got good news.
My men: *went to gather around*
Me: The war in Europe is finally over Germany has surrounded to the allies.
My men: *cheered*
Me: That's all.
After I told them, we had orders to move up to take the rest of the island from the Japanese, when we did that, we started to cheer, because the war on this island is getting near the end. It was already June 14th and tomorrow is the last day on this island, when we got the word that we might have to take the fight to the Japanese homeland for a huge and last battle. June 15th came and the war at Okinawan was finally over with as we got back onto the ship for the last time to head to the Japanese homeland, as the night came near to the end of the day, we all went to sleep.
Few nights later, I overheard Major Gordon orders to Sgt Roebuck, Pvt Polonsky, and Pvt Miller to take a team to take Shuri Castle. Pvt Millier and I were close friends when we join, when Sgt Sullivan given him a mission to take Maikn Atoll by then he and the other Marines went M.I.A, I wasn't there at the time, I was still on aboard the troopships. But I'm glad that he's still alive. There was Japanese resistance at Shuri Castle, but the Japanese killed Sgt Roebuck. Pvt Polonsky and Pvt Miller and the other Marines fought as hell there, at the end we won over Shui Castle, and Miller told me that Polonsky handed him Sgt Roebuck's dogtags, I felt sorry for him to lose another friend that fought with from the beginning.
Thank you so much for this.
