November 20th - 23rd 1943
When we landed on Tarawa, we we're meat with heavy gun and tank fire, after we pushed up few miles, we had to call air support due to the Japanese tanks and artillery, I started to pray for once during the battle, but it forced me to fight and helped my wounded men, and be ordered by my Sargent to push up and take a squared of rifleman, submachine gun, and three tanks try to flank them from the side, so I take the team on this flanking mission on the Japanesse and destroy the artillery as well. Later into the day, it's getting close to 8:30 pm, and my Sargent came to me.Sgt Tommy: Lance Corporal Richard.
Me: Sgt?
Sgt Tommy: The higher up ask me to tell you to move you're team up, to the Japanese position and wait until the right time to attack them, and when the morning comes have you're radio men to give us a head up on the location that you guys are at so we don't have to kill our own men.
Me: Yes Sargent.
Sgt Tommy: Oh one more then, the Captain is moving me up to Sutff Sargent and you are being promoted to Sargent.
Me: Yes sir, I'll get a move on right now.
SSGT Tommy: Okay and be careful out there.
Me: *nods*
Now I'm a Sgt after the first day invasion, as I move my team up to the Japanese position and started to wait for the right time to attack, so I told my team to fix bayonets, so I told them at 9:15 pm we'll attack them, because we're right on top of them, I tell them throw grenades first, and then we will charge at them. After the attack we drove them back to their other position, and we got into their fox holes and wait until morning for our main task forces to show up to help us for the main attack on their new position.
November 21st 1943
It's 10:30 am I told my radio man to call the main task force to hold their fire, because we're about ten or nine miles in front of them, and they said okay, after that we had to hold them off until the main forces shows up, after three hours the main task forces shows up and started to help us to drive back the Japanese off the island. When we got to the Japanese position, we cleared it out from any last Japanese radio men that are trying to call for help, but I made sure that they didn't call for their navy to help them out, but that message didn't arrive to them, our own US Navy Fleet cut the Japanese Navy Fleet off from the island, I'm glad that they did that to keep us save from the Japanese dive bombers and ships.
Captain Kyle: Sargent Richard.
Me: Yes Captain?
Captain Kyle: You and you're team did a good job last night, and early this morning.
Me: Thank you sir.
Captain Kyle: No problem Sgt, and Sgt Richard, how would you like to be a Sutff Sargent?
Me: I would like to be a Sitff Sargent sir.
Captain Kyle: Then good for you Richard, you are now a Sutff Sargent and you are now command of that team Richard.
Me: Thank you sir.
Captain Kyle: No problem, and you should rest up.
Me: Yes sir.
After all of the fighting, we started to rest up and we got fresh ammo and food for all of us, but I didn't take the food, because I didn't feel like eating, I started to fall asleep next to a medica, after two or three hours, the same medica wakes me up and he told me that we're moving out, as I get up and I grabbed my gear and started to follow the team to our next mission on the island, and the Captain told us that we have two more days left on the island, I'm thinking to myself wow this is the most shortest fight on a island I've ever been on, after six hours we put up camp again and some of us went to sleep and the others stayed up to keep watch for the enemy movement in the dark.
November 22 1943
Since early this morning we took out the second to last Japanese position on the island, before attacking them from the front and the sides, the plan was from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, did that work well kinda, but we're not complaining about anything, because the Marines are the best have the best that the USA has. When we got into our massive group of men to ready for a attack on the last Japanese resistances on the island, when the night came we're already two or three miles away from the Japanese position, I started to talk to my new team that I'm in command of and I go over the plans with them, I don't want them to die on me for this and I want to bring them all back home in one piece. It was my turn to keep watch and to protect my team from being killed from the Japanese tanks and men, when my shift was over I had to wake up my other SSGT, so he can keep an eye on anything or something from the Japanese side.
November 23rd 1943
When we woke up, we had to start moving to take the last Japanese position, when we got their, they put up a fight for the island and their last position, we went full force on them, and putting new live ammo on them, and I'm hoping that we take some Japanese soldiers as prisoners, after ten hours we took maybe 20 or 50 Japanese troops as prisoners, we loaded them up and military police took them to P.O.W. camp somewhere, I'm not sure, but I'm glad that we are moving onto our next island, and we went back to the US Navy Fleet. After when we got onto the ship, we went to the cafeteria, for some hot meals and hot showers from the fight on Tarawa.
