"That's a cute top." Cat say after I've put it on. I stand infront of the mirror in our room, looking over the clothes I have on. I decided to wear black tights and a longer dark blue top with a low back.
"Thank you." I reply before fixing some strands that have run loose from my braid.
"Blue suits you." She compliment me. I always feel awkward when people do that, never knowing how to respons. Thank you feels weird to say. I smile back at her in respons.
"So is this going to be a big party?" I try to change the subject.
"Yeah, they always throw big parties." She say and add a light pink lipstick to her lips before she look herself over. Her hair is in loose waves around her head, a small part held up by a clip and she's wearing a white and green dress that ends just below her butt. I don't think I would ever be comfortable going out in a dress like that. Specially if I don't wear tights under. But she looks good and confident in it.
My first week at UCLA is now done. It's been a good week, the classes hasn't been too much assignment yet, but it's going to start to be even more studying soon. I know that one of my classes is going to have a really big essay in a couple of weeks. So I should enjoy this slower pace.
I had said that I could be the sober driver today. Cat tried to convince me that we could take a cab, but I insisted. But then again, they don't know that I can't drink and don't have a problem to drive.
We pick up Megan and Nora before Cat guides me toward the Delta Phi frat house. We stop on the street infront of a large white villa and as soon we step out of the house we hear the booming music from inside. The house is beautiful with arched windows and pillars holding up the balcony above the entrance. Feels waisted on a group of frat boys.
Cat lead the way into the house. I follow after Nora and Megan feeling a little out of my element.
"Heey!" We hear someone shout as soon as we enter. I look around the girls to see Ryan hug Cat. Megan instantly disappears in the crowd of people. "I'm glad you came." Ryan shouts at me. I like Ryan, he's very kind and feels like a nice guy.
"Me too. God there's a lot of people here." I say looking around the big room that I guess is their living room or common room when it's not packed with dancing bodies.
"Yeah, it's a good turnout. Drinks are in the kitchen." He say and point to an opening on the side of the room, looking to host even more people. I disregard the fact that I'm not drinking.
I wish I could snoop around and see the house, but that might be inappropriate. I follow after Cat who's going for the kitchen. I recognize a few people that I share classes with and some that I've met when I've hangout with Cat. I see a girl I often sit beside in my Introduction to Creative Writing class and I wave at her. We've never really talked, but somehow we always choose the same place to sit in class.
As we get to the kitchen Cat rummage through the big bucket with ice and drinks. She comes up with a cider for herself and a soda that she hand me. I thank her before we walk further into the kitchen to say hi to other people.
After about an hours I stand and talk with Nora and a girl I don't remember the name off, when Shawn shows up. He really wants to be in the center as he's shouting over everybody. He comes over.
"Soda, really?" He ask, slinging his arm over my shoulders. I instantly shrug it off.
"Yep." I answer and take a sip. He's looking at me with a strange look.
"So boooring. Take a drink, we have every...everything you could pos..sibly want." He stumble on his words and I can smell his breath since he's standing too close. He is definitely intoxicated.
