I pulled my phone out of my pocket while walking out of my final exam.

"Hello, this is Cynthia Jareau"

"Cynthia, we have a case that we really need your help figuring out. Will you come down to the office please?" Derek's voice chimed through the other line,

"Actually you got me just in time, I just finished my finals so sure i'll come!" I said giddy to be seeing Derek again.

Hopping into my car I stepped on the gas and sped off. The whole drive there I made myself anxious thinking about the other night and seeing Derek again. Between traffic and nerves, by the time I was in the elevator up to the BAU I had to force myself to breath properly.

*DING*

The doors opened to my destination and I immediately saw Reid and Derek talking intently with each other. Suddenly this idea popped into my head and I snuck towards them to scare them. Slowly getting closer I got ready for the scare, 1 more foot and.... before I could get a chance to do anything Derek turned around. I could feel the blood rushing to my checks and turning them bright red, Derek however had a huge grin on his face.

"Hi baby girl how are you?" He said very happily.

As soon as those words left his mouth my cheeks turned an ever brighter, unimaginable shade of red.

"umm I'm good! I just finished up my final exam and am now university free" I said shyly but also happily.

"uh-oh shes catching up to you Reid, better watch your back! which class is this for again?"

"Economics" Both Reid and I said in unison. Of course Reid would remember. Derek nodded his head smiling.

" so whats the case you need help with?" I asked instantly perking up.

"Multiple robberies, interestingly all of the employees were injured or killed but none of the customers even had a scratch on their bodies. Did you know that statistically 87% of robberies consist of threats but nobody will actually get harmed and 17% don't even use real guns?" Reid blabbered on as he was looking over the file he had in his hands.

"The three of us are taking the jet to Seattle while the rest of the team works on a case here" Derek told me as Reid was still rambling off statistics, somehow he got all the way to on average how many female babies compared to male babies were born each year.

On the jet Reid and I were in an intense chess battle while Derek listened to his music

"Checkmate!" Reid yelled

"what? I could've sworn I had you on that one, RESTART!" I yelled back

"The key is to think ahead, not just your moves but the whole game. Ask yourself, how will this game play out? and then you will see the light." Reid said a little bit dramatically but it still made me laugh none the less.

For the longest time we played until I could finally figure out this sacred method. Finally I beat Reid and jumped for joy, only to be thrown back into my seat from the sudden movement. I had a permanent smile set on my face when Reid said "now you know the secret of chess, use it to your advantage!"
