In just a few short days, we were up in Halifax visiting my family.
"I'm really happy you agreed to come along." I smiled at her.
"Yeah...I am too." I closed my eyes and tried to get some sleep.
In just a few short hours, we had landed in Halifax.
"Wake up honey." I was kissed on the nose by Kelsey.
"I'm awake. Did you not sleep?" I yawned.
I'm kind of nervous to see Kelsey's reaction to meeting my parents.
"I did. What's wrong? Does your back hurt again?" I shook my head.
"No I'm fine." I kissed her forehead.
I rubbed my hands together as we walked toward baggage claim because it's getting colder in Halifax, and the airport has a terrible heating system.
"Sidney! Over here!" I saw Taylor waving her arms and jump up and down with a 'welcom home Kelsey' sign.
"Taylor!" I ran over to her with Kelsey running behind.
"I missed you so much!" I thnk she started crying.
"I missed you too. Oh by the way, this is Kelsey." I brought Kelsey up in front of Taylor.
"Hi. I've heard a ton of good things about you," Kelsey waved. Taylor just beamed.
"Oh um mom wanted me to tell you that paschal dupis is out for six months." He is? Oh well....
"Oh what happened?" I feel bad for him, but he's with his family.
"I don't know. Something about clotting or something. Anyways, we should get going. The car's running on a meter." We grabbed our bags and headed out.
KELSEY'S POV
We let Sidney drive since Taylor didn't want to.
"Did you hear about Kyle, Sidney?"
"Um who's Kyle," I asked, wanting to know more.
"Here we go again. That's her projected boyfriend."
"Sidney! We are not dating! Well not yet. He asked me out after a hockey game once and I said yes." Sidney rolled his eyes as we pulled up.
I walked in and was immediatley greeted by his parents whom I were told were named Trina and Troy.
"Hello, you must be Kelsey. I'm Trina and this is Troy, Sidney's dad."
"Hi. That's me." I smiled as Sidney walked in behind me with our stuff.
"Hi mom, hi dad." He set our stuff down and went in to hug his parents.
"Hi Sidney. I've missed you so much honey," Trina, I think she said that was her name, held onto Sidney the longest.
"I missed you too, mom." He let go, grabbing our bags and leading me upstairs.
"Welcome home, son. Oh and welcome home Kelsey," Troy winked at me. Um...awkward.
"Thanks." I followed Sidney upstairs and passed a wall of pictures. Must've been him and Taylor.
"By the way, when my dad said welcome home, he really meant welcome to the family." Oh...okay.
"So...what did you do for fun around here?" I asked sitting on the floor.
"Well...I'll show you tomorrow. I need to get some sleep. I hate to admit it but, I've got a killer road trip coming up here soon." I got up and joined him on the side of his bed.
"Oh honey. You're alright." I kissed his forehead.
I looked out of his window to see a view of something. It wasn't a good view, but it was a view.
"SIDNEY, KELSEY, TAYLOR! DINNER!" I was secretly hoping we were going out, but those chances were slim to none.
Since we've been 'dating' for over a year, we've yet to go out and we've always talked about going out, it just never worked out with our schedules.
"You're gonna love mom's cooking. She's the best!" Taylor said walking past me.
"Yeah...that seems about right. She usually makes my favorite dinner when I come home." He slung his arm around me, smiling as we walked into the kitchen.
"Mmm. Mom, what are you making?"
"Sidney's home so I thought I'd make his favorite." Trina winked.
"Thanks mom." I felt weird sitting down at a family dinner. Not my own family, but it was a family dinner.
The last time I sat down at a family dinner, I was just graduating college....
"Kelsey, you awake?" I nodded my head.
"Yeah...or trying to be." I looked over at Taylor who was trying not to laugh at Sidney's shirt.
"Sidney, you've barely touched your food. Are you okay?" He nodded.
"Fine. Thinking about hockey. I need to hit the rink tomorrow." I secretly smiled on the inside.
"That's fine. Anything else bothering you?" I really didn't want him to bring up dupes and the whole clot.
"I'm fine, mom." She put her innocent hands up.
"Alright. How long are you guys here for," Trina asked. I likedshrugged.
"As long as we want. Or at least until I have a game. I'm missing practice on Monday...probably not a good idea." He looked at me and mouthed something.
"No. You're fine, Sidney. I talked to coach. He's fine with it. As long as you put in some hours at a rink somewhere, he's fine with that." I ate the rest of my steak. Damn, that is a good piece of steak! Trina Crosby can cook for fucks sakes.
"What kind of hours are we looking at here, Sid? It's been a while. We all want to hang out with you sweetheart." I felt my phone buzz in my pocket, but I ignored it.
"Kelsey is the one to ask." I felt my cheeks turn bright red as he said that.
"I'm not...I don't know...I'll email the coach later, Sidney." He smiled and we ate the rest of dinner in silence.
***
"Your mom can cook. Damn she's good." I said, putting my phone in the charger.
Now that I think about it, I've never met a more flexible coax than Sidney's. He was all like 'yeah...he just needs to put in like six to eight hours of work to make up for what he's gonna miss on Monday, if he's gonna miss Monday'.
"Yeah...she's good. And yes, steak is my all time favorite food." He looked out the window.
"Alright," I started saying moving over towards Sidney, "what's wrong? You were unusually quiet during dinner." Again, one of the things that irks the shit out of me.
"I'm fine." He got up and put on his '87' shirsey. (Shirt jersey)
"No. And you're going to tell me what's wrong. I'm not leaving you alone until you do." I was sitting on the end of his bed.
"Alright...I'll tell you."
