ONE YEAR LATER

Whatever Sean did back then, that man wasn't lying. He's no longer in debt, continuing to keep the roof over his head for now. But it felt like something was missing...yet he can't remember what it was. All he knows was that it was bad, but he can't put his finger on why.
Shrugging it off, he sat down on his bed with some food when his phone rang. Picking it up, it was one of his friends.

He put the phone on speaker. "What's up, Athena?"
Athena was his best friend, and has been for about five years. She was always there for him, no matter how late it was.

"Still coming to that show tonight?" She asked.

"You know I will." Sean said with a light smile. "Wanna meet up somewhere for food first?"

"Why not your house with some pizza?" She suggested, getting a chuckle out of him.

"You always know, don't you?"

Athena laughed. "Come on now, Sean. We've been friends for how long?" He heard rustling on the other end, followed by some footsteps, meaning she was getting ready. "I'll be there in twenty."

"Sounds good to me." He said, and hung up, continuing to watch his show on Netflix.
After some time, he heard the doorbell. Standing up, he brushed the crumbs off of his jeans before going to answer it.

"Well, look what the cat dragged in." He said, giving Athena a hug. She was slightly shorter than him, with long, black hair, pale skin, and startlingly bright hazel eyes. She wore her favorite red silk shirt with a cami underneath, black jeans, and Converse.

"Here I am." She said with a smile, Sean letting her inside. "So what do we wanna do until we head out?"

Sean shrugged as they wandered into the living room area, where a brown couch faced a flat screen TV, the coffee table no longer full of papers. Grabbing a controller, he handed it to her. "Mario Kart?"

Grinning, she took it. "I'm so gonna kick your ass."

Sean gave her a teasing look. "Keep telling yourself that."

"Dammit!!" Sean exclaimed as Athena crossed the finish for the third time. "How're you so good at that??"

She looked over at him with pride. "Practice. And a lot of playing this game."

Rolling his eyes, he set the controller down next to the now empty box that once had pizza in it. Checking the time, he stood up. "Well, we better go to the show if we still wanna get in."

Nodding, she got to her feet, Sean grabbing his sweatshirt before the two of them headed out.

"So, how're we gonna get there?" She asked. "Cab?"

Smirking, he shook his head. "Nope."

He turned his head to the left, towards his driveway. Following his gaze, Athena scoffed. "No way.."

Going over to it, she got a closer look, her eyes huge. It was a cherry red 1967 Chevy Impala with a hood-scoop in the front. The interior was black, seats and everything, the only thing popping out of that is the silver belt-buckles.

"Dude! Where did you get this??" She asked.

"Bought it from a guy who was selling it." Sean said. "So we going or what?"

Smiling, the two of them got in. Once he started it up, the engine purred loudly, Athena's smile even wider.

"Man, I love this thing already." She said.

He put it in reverse. "So do I."

Backing out into the street, they headed to where the concert was going to be.

The sky was black with rain, pouring out onto the streets when lightning struck the ground. The rain suddenly turned to molten lava, leaving a burn mark wherever it touched when a figure emerged, wearing all black, his skin white as a ghost. Looking around his surroundings with his pale blue eyes, he grinned evilly before continuing on into the town, looking for his next opponent. The one who he has looked for for years.

The ghost rider.
