After the science toaster and a few other random gifts here and there, I began coming over to the Professor's home and lab more often. Always finding him very welcoming but very invested in his work. Sometimes he even would ask for my help.
"Vai, could you hand me the scientific screwdriver?"
I was beginning to realize that when he adds "Science" or "scientific" to the beginning of tools, they're modified in some way, and not just him being fancy about his work; so I would always have to be particularly careful what I would hand to him or I may literally end the world.
"Yeah, sure." I give him a little smile, watching him work as I hand him the "scientific screwdriver."
"thank you!" He shouts from under a giant device, the sounds of sparking electricity surrounding the area around us.
The atmosphere here was literally electrifying.
"I've been meaning to thank you for your help." He slips out from under the device, Looking up at me, his goggles glinting in the fluorescent light.
"You don't need to do that, really." I laugh softly, looking away from him, a rather large spark of electricity catching my eye as I duck to get out of the way.
"No, I must!" He pulls down his coat that usually rests over his mouth and gives me a smile. "Let me take you out to dinner one of these nights."
"R-Really?"
"of course! I have yet to lie to you, Vai! I won't start now!" He gives me another smile as he lets his lab coat come up over his nose and mouth again as he starts working on the machine once more.
"Vai please hand me the normal screwdriver now."
I hand it to him while asking "can the scientific screwdriver not screw in screws?"
"No it cannot! Or else the normal screwdriver would be proved worthless."
"...." I just think about the logistics of that sentence for a while as I watch him and help him by handing tools or holding things he needs me to hold.
