Trigger warning: Zach
That's all. The warning is Zach. You'll see...

John was walking through the hallway full of kids, holding his books. He suddenly froze in his space when he heard that sickening voice.

"You looked damn sexy on that stage..."

John was still looking forward as he heard footsteps from behind. He couldn't turn to him.

"I realized once again, what I've lost..."

This one sentence made him turn to him.
"Don't try to blind me with your non-existent feelings, Zach. What do you want?"

"Woah John. You've changed. At least I think I taught you something then, huh? When we broke up, you were a pathetic little crap bag who cried at everything and couldn't speak back. Look at you now! You're protecting yourself! Big, big, big improvement. Well done..."

"You taught me nothing. You never did anything other than to turn my whole life into misery." John hissed, narrowing his eyes at his ex who was right next to him.

"A misery? Wow! Oh John don't you think you're exaggerating a little bit, maybe?"

John's jaw dropped, unable to say anything. He started to walk away.

"Your mom reported me to the principal. I almost got detention. See, you can't do anything by yourself. I bet your mother still holds your hand whilst crossing the road, doesn't she?"

"Shut up..." John quietly said, turning to him for a second, hugging his books.

Then..
Then he heard the voice of his saver.
"John? Is everything okay? Should we go?"

John turned to him. "Let's go Fred."

Freddie's heart filled up with joy, seeing John wasn't avoiding him anymore. They started to walk away but soon the joy in his heart was rotten by the devil.

"Awwww! Look how cute! He's protecting his boyfriend!"  Zach yelled, loud enough for the people to hear.

Both of them froze in shock as everybody in the hallway turned to the three. John took a deep breath to calm down and turned to Zach.

"He isn't my boyfriend, Zach. We're not dating. Stop spreading nonsense rumors." The two started walking again after Freddie shot him a dirty glance.

"You like him, don't you Freddie? You are so in love with him!"
That was then Zach felt the locker against his back all of a sudden with two hands holding the collar of his shirt. The brown eyes of the boy looking straight into his.

"YES I LOVE HIM, OKAY? I REALLY DO LIKE HIM!" Freddie screamed.
"BUT..." He lowered his voice. "He doesn't like me back..."

He raised his voice again.

"Then why am I protecting him? To impress him?! Not at all. He can protect himself so bloody damn well, you just haven't seen it. I'm protecting him because I'm not a douchebag who treats people badly when he gets 'no' as an answer! I'm also not possessive over him. He is free. Oh and consider yourself lucky that you didn't see him angry. I've known him since 6th grade and when he's angry, he IS fucking angry. Now listen to me carefully Zachy, if I see John crying because of you only ONE more time and if you even pull one strand of hair of his, let me just say, I'm not afraid to get expelled. Now get lost! You heard me. GET LOST!!"

Zach gulped and nodded, his eyes filled with fear. He quickly ran away once he was out of Freddie's tight grasp. Freddie's face was red with anger and his fists were in the form of a punch, his knuckles white. He quickly walked pass John before he heard him.

"Fred, wait..."

He turned to him.

"I-I do like you..."

Freddie's eyes widened up.

"I'm sorry that I avoided you but...I'll tell you everything. Follow me."

Freddie followed John into the classroom and John closed the door. They both sat down.

"As I said earlier, I'm gonna tell you everything now. Look, you know Zach and I...it started off so well. He loved me and I loved him. I was happy, really. Then...but then things changed. He started to treat me worse and worse everyday. He used to call me slurs and even though I told him I didn't like it, he would continue. Verbal abuse became physical after a short period of time. Not much, but he pushed me a few times in our relationship and slapped me when I told him I was breaking up with him. You remember the time my knee was bleeding and you, Rog and Bri asked me what happened? I told you I fell down while I was running, right? Well, not exactly...He pushed me to the ground. I wasn't running. And...and...he once wanted...nudes..."

Freddie's face dropped when he heard this.
"Have you sent any?"

John shook his head. "No." He said. "He was my boyfriend but I wasn't going to expose my body. I didn't trust him."

"Don't ever send anybody nudes Deaky. Whether you trust them or not."

(A/N DON'T EVER SEND PEOPLE NUDES!!!)

John nodded before continuing.
"And he also once touched my butt. Not directly, from the fabric of my jeans so it's okay I guess..." He sighed.

"John...this is NOT okay." Freddie said, feeling tears pricking his eyes.

"So that is why I avoided you. Look, Freddie. I really like you, don't get me wrong. The reason is that...I'm just not ready for a new relationship. I was scared to say it because I didn't want to break your heart."

"That dick! He made you scared of love..." Freddie squeaked, tears spilling out of his eyes. "He ACTUALLY made you scared of loving somebody." Anger filled him up as his fists got in the form of a punch once again. "I wish I had punched him back there!"

"You're speaking of violence just like him. Now how can I trust people when everybody's the same!" John said, his tears now falling on his cheeks.

"Darling please. You know that I'm not like him. I'm just so angry right now. That's why I said it."

John covered his face with his hands, sobbing into them.

"Dear, look. I've noticed changes in you for the past few months but didn't mention them because I was scared you'd get me wrong. John, you were always shy, okay? We all know it. I didn't know the reason until you told me about Zach but now I understand. Johnny, he has made you insecure..." He stopped for a second. "I don't want to call you that because you have nothing to insecure about but it's sadly the truth."

"I-I hate myself, Freddie." John said quietly. "Even though I try to like myself even the slightest bit, I can't..." He lowered his head down, his tears streaming down his face faster than ever now. He licked his lips and sniffed in.

"Don't say that Deaky. Look darling, I'm not gonna straight up ask you to be my boyfriend. Of course not. Just please...give me a chance so I can at least teach you to love yourself again, huh? If you want to..." Freddie said, wiping John's tears away with his thumb.

"I mean..." John said. "Like go on dates and stuff?"

"Exactly."

"Okay..." John replied, wiping his tears and smiling softly.

"How about this Saturday?"

"Three days later? Alright."

"We'll talk about the date and time later, okay? Let's first wash your face and get you to calm down darling."
