Adam's view
It had been a week since heathers birthday so a week since we had nearly kissed. But it was like she was keeping her distance from me for some reason.
"Adam come play" summer tugged at my arm pulling me out of the thoughts.
"Where's your mummy?" I asked as I sat on the floor in her play kitchen.
"Getting ready she's going out tonight" she said
At that moment the doorbell rang.
"Adam can you get that please" Erin shouted from the kitchen.
"Sure" I mumbled as I got up.
Opening the door the was this guy there that I've never seen before.
"Can I help?" I asked leaning against the door frame.
"I'm here to pick heather up" he smiled clutching the bunch of roses.
"Urm she's just getting ready come in" I said trying not to show I was pissed off. "She shouldn't be long"
Walking back over to summer trying to not get too worked up. At the end of the day we wasn't together and she could see who she wanted.
About 15 minutes later heather came out of the bathroom looking stunning in a khaki green skirt, a white button long sleeved top and a pair of thigh high boots. I found myself biting my bottom lip looking at her.
"I'm going for a smoke" I mumbled I need to get out of this room before I said something.
"I might join you. Jack you don't mind do you?" She asked.
"No course not" he smiled at her whilst looking her up and down practically drooling.
"Can I pinch one" heather grinned nudging my shoulder. As I passed her a smoke she looked up at me through her eyelashes. "How come you are here?"
"Thought i'd come see my favourite 5 year old before she went to bed" I shrugged when in reality I wanted to spend time with heather. But I didn't have the guts to tell her the truth.
"Aren't you cute" she grinned
"Yeah I suppose" I laughed. "You look amazing by the way he is a lucky guy"
"I don't know about lucky he hasn't got to know me yet" she sighed.
"Hey" I said pulling her into my side "you are an amazing and I don't want to hear you saying otherwise"
"Thanks Adam" she whispered "I best be getting back. Will you be around when I get back?
"I'm not sure yet" I nodded "enjoy your date"

"Hey you ok buddy you've been pretty quite since heather left?" Erin asked as I came back from the kitchen with a beer.
"Yes, no, I dunno" I sighed "I thought I was getting somewhere with heather I mean we nearly kissed at the fair"
"Wait what she didn't tell me that bit" Erin said sitting up.
"Yeah it was only because someone recognised me it didn't happen" I sighed.
"Look Adam" she said putting her hand on my shoulder "want to know the truth? You remind her so much of Harry and the fact that a lot of the things you two have done have been the first time since Harry died, no one has been able to calm her down since Harry. So just be patient with her ok let her do her thing and eventually she will see what's under her nose"
"Do you think that's why she had distanced herself from me?" I sighed looking down.
"That's exactly why Adam she's scared if she gets too close she will lose you" Erin said.
"That's not gonna happen though" I whispered.
"She doesn't know that though. Her heart it still very fragile at the moment so she will be doing everything she can to protect it" she half smiled.
Before I could speak again I felt summer come and hug my leg.
"Can you read me a bedtime story" she asked giving me puppy dog eyes.
"Well how can I say no to this adorable face" I laughed picking her up and carrying her to her room.

I had decided it would be best if I had gone by the time heather had got home. So here I was laying in my bed with one person on my mind.
I understood what Erin said, heather was fragile and I don't blame her she had been through a lot over the past year but she was slowly starting to open up to me. Slowly starting to take them walls down she built to protect herself. I knew Erin was right eventually she would come round but there was a chance that she only wanted to be friends. And that killed me.
Making sure my alarms were set for the morning I reached over flicking the lamp off before settling down in bed. All I wanted was one person in my bed. I had the best nights sleep the night I shared a bed with heather. I don't know what it was but she relaxed me like she melted all my worries just by smiling at me something no one has ever been able to do before. I don't know why I couldn't bring myself to tell her how I felt.
Scrolling through Instagram I saw she had posted a couple of stories of her and jack out in a bar. She was smiling but I could see straight though the smile she didn't want to be there. Locking my phone I couldn't take any more. I wished more than everything that it was me taking her on a date tonight.
