Everything will change

It had been a week since we picked up this case and we was still no closer to finding the son of a bitch and on top of every the custody hearing was getting closer.

Over the past week my days went, work, pick summer up and mummy duties until she went to sleep and then work again.

Glancing at the clock sighing it was 1am. I really should be getting to bed but I needed to find out where he was.

"Baby come to bed" Adams raspy voice said as he rubbed my shoulders.

"But" I started to say.

"But nothing, this will all still be here in the morning. Your not gonna be any good to us if you are shattered. Now come on. Bed" he sleepily said.

"Fine" I mumbled closing the file and grabbing my phone.

"We will find him but don't lose yourself in the process" Adam whispered as he guided me to bed.

Climbing into bed I cuddled up to Adam running my finger softly over his bare chest.

"I just need to find him. I didn't realise it before but this is the closure I need." I mumbled.

"I know baby, I know but you are gonna make yourself ill. I've seen how many coffees and energy drinks you have been putting away this last week" he whispered playing with my hair.

I don't know what it was about being in adams arms listening to his heartbeat but it was like my lullaby. It always made me feel sleepy, placing a single kiss on his chest I let my eyes close.

As I pulled the milk out of the fridge for summers cereal the letter caused me to check the date on my watch.

"Fudge" I muttered.

"What's up?" Adam asked as he grabbed his gun from the top cupboard.

"With everything that's going on I forgot summer had an inset day today and the school holidays start" I sighed. "I've been so focused on this case I've not sorted any child care out or anything"

"First of all take a deep breath" Adam said putting his hands on my shoulders. "Summer can come to work with us today and then I will speak to my sister to see if she can watch summer"

Just before I could speak there was a knock at the door.

Answering the door I saw my mum stood there grinning at me.

"Mam what you doing here" I said surprised as she hugged me.

"Can't I come and surprise my only daughter" she laughed "and I know it's school holidays now so I thought you could do with a hand now you are back in work"

"Do you know you are a life saver" I smiled letting her in.

She looked around the apartment seeing Adam chatting away to summer.

"It's half 7 in the morning and Adam's here. Does that mean he's staying the night" she grinned.

"Mam" I moaned.

"Oh shush. Now please don't tell me you are turning into your father and bringing work home" she said eyeing the case files scattered over the table.

"It's a big case that I'm running point on so yeah" I shrugged. "Right we've got to bounce you ok looking after summer she's got inset day" I said rounding up the case files.

"Yes now go" she laughed.

As I was sat at my desk going through everything for the millionth time i suddenly had a realisation.

"The dumb motherfucker" I shouted causing everyone to look at me confused. "How did I not see it"

"Heather what you talking about?" Kevin asked.

"Ok so Jamie would have been to see Johnny in the last week. Which means Jamie knows we are looking for him. More so It also means that he knows I'm looking for him" I said jumping up.

"Right I'm still confused" Kevin shrugged.

"Jamie isn't the brightest spark and still owns the place where they shot harry. The dumb fuck still lives there" I breathed "how fast can we get a warrant on his place"

"Give me 10 minutes I will make some calls" Adam nodded at me before sitting at his desk.

"Guys gear up" I smiled at them.

10 minutes later Adam walked over to me waving a piece of paper.

"You little beauty" I grinned snatching the paper from him. Before folding it and putting it in the pocket of my bullet proof vest. "Right this is how we are going to play it. I do not under any circumstances want any of you in there with me until Jamie is in cuffs or has a couple of holes in him. I want you surrounding the place making sure he cannot escape" I said

"I'm not letting you go in on your own" Erin protested.

"I won't be on my own I will be taking Hank in with me" I nodded "look I am not losing anyone else in my life to these people ok. Hank has his own vendetta against them as they not only took my husband away but they took hanks best friend."

What a lot of people didn't know was that I met Harry through Hank and Erin. And that Harry was 12 years older than me.

"Ready" Hank whispered.

"It's now or never" I nodded before booting the door open.

"CHICAGO PD" I screamed as I held my gun up. And there he was as stupid as ever asleep on the sofa. The sound of the door being kicked in caused him to wake up, as soon as he saw me and Hank he grinned.

"Thought I'd be getting a visit soon" Jamie laughed "although took you long enough to realise where I was"

"Still as stupid as ever" i shrugged "now there's two ways this is gonna go. The easy way where you just calmly hand yourself in or the hard way. Choice is yours"

He didn't say anything instead pulled his gun out of his hoodie aiming at my head.

"Oh I was hoping you chose the hard way" I smirked "you son of a bitch"

"Knew I should have shot you as well" he muttered before shooting. Luckily I saw his finger move to the trigger so I had time to jump out of the way making sure both me and Hank were safe.

"You have left me no choice" I shrugged aiming my gun as he shot another round missing. Luckily I never missed my target. Pulling the trigger I popped two in his chest and watched his body collapse on the floor.

Waking over to his body I leaned over before smiling to myself.

"Rot in hell" I mumbled before walking over to Hank.

"It's over" he whispered whilst we waited for everyone else to come up.

"Still got Johnny to deal with" I mumbled.

"Already done. He had managed to get out of confinement and into general population. Got into a fight and died from his injuries" Hank shrugged.

"It's really over?" I breathed as he pulled me into a hug.

"Yes kiddo it is officially over" he whispered holding me tight.

It was in that moment that I felt closure. Looking up to the roof I smiled with tears in my eyes.
