"Thissss territory is oursssss!" a loud voice hissed. "The Cookiesssss have no right being here."
"You must learn to tolerate, child," a gentle voice replied. "The Cookies will do us no harm. As far as they are concerned, we do not exist."
"What about that red one?" the first voice challenged. "Will he reveal our sssssecret?"
"Fire Spirit is a loyal one. He's here to protect us."
"I do not believe you. He is bound to betray usssss."
"Your brothers and sisters need to grow. Fire Spirit will be staying with us to protect them and train them."
"..."
"You are the oldest here. You must learn to not be so stubborn."
"...Fine. Give me ssssome time to think about it."
Spreading his massive magenta wings, he turned his back and took off into the sky. With one last glance backwards, he soared into the horizon and past the walls of the Dragon's Lair.
"Stay safe Pitaya, my child."

For a long time, Pitaya surveyed the Cookies and learned of their habits. He even managed to create and maintain a Cookie form himself.
He had watched children grow and adult Cookies scurry from place to place, each one different in looks and personality.
Overall, they were mellow beings- posing no danger to the Dragons. Pitaya had made up his mind to rejoin his mother and Fire Spirit back at the Dragon's Valley.
Maybe the Cookies weren't so bad. After all, they did seem oblivious to the fact that Dragons existed in the first place, and even if they did, what would they do about it?
He unfolded his giant wings, looked to the sky, and took off towards the Dragon's Valley. Past the forest and past the cities, Pitaya soared closer and closer to his old home. He stopped once he had reached the Dragon's Gates.
Unlike any other time, this time he found out that the gates were wide open. Fresh footprints lead from outside through the path of the Lair and all the way towards a cave at the top.
Coming down from the cave was a blonde Cookie dressed in white armor and equipped with a sword... that wasn't Fire Spirit.
Inching closer, Pitaya transformed into his Cookie form and hid behind a rock as the strange Cookie passed by.
"What am I gonna do with those kids?" the armor-clad Cookie thought out loud as he walked past Pitaya's hiding place. "I can't take them all at once. Maybe I'll come back with reinforcements. But what if they escape?"
The kids? Pitaya thought. What does he mean by that?
The Cookie mounted his horse and began riding back.
"I seriously thought that Dragon would be harder to defeat, though..."
Shocked at the comment, Pitaya let out a loud cross between a gasp and a choking noise, causing the Cookie to turn back and dismount.
"Who is there?" the Cookie demanded, unsheathing his sword. "Show yourself!"
Pitaya cursed silently for being so foolish, but stayed completely still.
Slowly, the Cookie crept forward with his sword before him and peeked behind the rock to see Pitaya staring back at him.
"Drat!" Pitaya exclaimed, leaping into the air.
"DRAGON!" the Cookie yelped, swinging his sword.
Upon that, the sword caught Pitaya's swinging tail and chopped of the end of it, causing him to wince in pain and tumble backwards towards the lava pool.
The other Cookie, in a panic, hopped onto his horse and immediately galloped away, leaving Pitaya to hang onto the ledge of the chasm himself.
He tried to spread out his wings, but his fall had damaged them temporarily that they couldn't fly.
"HELP!" he cried, hoping that anyone would hear his voice.
A squeak sounded above him, and he looked up to see a tiny red creature with wings and sharp teeth floating above him.
Letting out a shrill cry, the creature formed a dragonfruit-shaped object in the air, which broke open and showered golden light onto Pitaya's wings, healing them.
Opening his wings wide, Pitaya burst into the sky and away from the lava pit.
Once he landed on the ground, he turned back to the strange creature, which was no longer red but a lighter pink color.
"What'ssssss your name?" Pitaya asked the creature.
The creature responded with a chirp, which he didn't understand. Then, he remembered the Cookie's words and immediately rushed towards the cave.
The kids? Did he mean my siblings? This can't be real...
Once he had reached the mouth of the cave, Pitaya was greeted with a shocking sight.
His mother lay on the floor, blood pouring out of her chest. Her eyes were closed and his siblings cried in fear around her.
"What happened?" he rushed forward to the young dragons. "Who did this?"
The blonde Cookie.
The thumping of marching footsteps began to sound from the distance, so Pitaya rushed back to the mouth of the cave to see other Cookies barging through the Dragon Valley gates with cages and boxes.
One of his siblings sobbed and cling onto his leg, crying "I don't want to die" over and over.
Pitaya glanced desperately back over at the advancing Cookies. He could only carry two of his siblings at most, since they could not fly yet. Hot tears of anger spilled onto his cheek as he grabbed the two closest to him and soared off into the sky.
I'm sorry brothers and sisters, he thought while gliding across the red sunset. I cannot take all of you.
Landing on a ledge far above the cave, he watched in frustration as the Cookies marched out with the rest of his siblings writhing and crying.
"The Cookiessss will pay for this!" he hissed bitterly as he turned around and burst off into the air again, fire burning at his feet.
