"This is a serious case, Walnut!" Grapefruit begged the child. "Those are my lucky rollerblades!"

"That's Detective Walnut to you!" the brown-haired girl replied. "But I will take on your case!"

"Thank you so much!" Grapefruit cried. "Do you need more details?"

"Yes, I do!" Walnut answered. "When and where did your shoes disappear?"

"I remember taking them off after skating around the park yesterday," Grapefruit recalled. "I sat down on a bench, took off my rollerblades, and placed them beneath me."

"And then what?" Walnut inquired, scribbling down the story in her notepad.

"So I pulled on my normal shoes," Grapefruit explained. "then after I was done, I heard someone call for me. Naturally, I went over to where the voice came from, but there was no one there."

"Go on," Walnut scribbled faster.

"Then, when I got back, they were gone!" Grapefruit exclaimed.

"Just like that?" Walnut raised an eyebrow. "Exactly how long were you apart from your shoes?"

"I'd say about fifty seconds," Grapefruit told the sleuth. "It wasn't much, but it was enough to snatch my shoes and get away."

"Did you find anything near where your shoes were taken?" Walnut questioned. "It may be a helpful clue."

"Come to think of it, I did find something!" Grapefruit held out a pink ribbon. "It looks like someone's hair-tie!"

"Curious..." Walnut took the hair-tie from Grapefruit and inspected it. "Do you know anyone who wears this?"

Grapefruit thought for a second.

"I got it!" she exclaimed. "It must have been my opponent last year from the skating competition! She lost against me and was pretty salty about it."

"What's her name?" Walnut asked, jotting down more notes.

"I think she was called Guava Cookie!" Grapefruit answered (and no she is not an oc i just came up with a random name).

"Alright, that is all I needed to know!" Walnut closed her notepad. "I'll get those shoes back to you in no time!"

"Thank you again!" Grapefruit cried. "I don't know what I'll do without you!"

After a bit of research and asking around, Walnut found where Guava lived. She planned on interrogating the skater, finding the shoes, and immediately returning them to Grapefruit. But as usual, things didn't exactly go to plan.

First off, Walnut found that she didn't even need to interrogate Guava, as she found Grapefruit's shoes tossed into a nearby dumpster. Guava must have discarded them in order to avert suspicion from herself.

And second, as she picked up the shoes, she found a blue envelope lying on the ground. Curious, Walnut tucked the shoes into her bag and picked the envelope up.

On the front side, the card had a lovely teal wax seal with an image of a hat on it. She wondered whose it was and what it was for.

Slowly opening the card, Walnut pulled out a slip of paper. It read, "Pleasure to finally meet you, Detective Walnut."

Surprised, she dropped the card onto the ground as a shadowy figure landed before her. She could see they wore a tall hat and a cape.

As the figure walked towards Walnut and slowly came into view, she began to recognize them as the light of the full moon illuminated their body: it was the infamous phantom thief, Phantom Bleu.

Walnut quickly drew out a bottle of pepper spray she always brought along with her.

"What do you want from me?" she demanded, stepping back.

"Put down your spray," Phantom Bleu sighed. "I only want to talk."
Cautiously, Walnut slipped the pepper spray back into her bag but didn't break eye contact with the phantom thief.

During those few seconds, she analyzed the thief. Since this was the first time she met him in person, she discovered a few new things about him that she could not see on television or the news. Bleu looked in his early to mid-twenties and was very likely even student. Walnut could see that he had long, blonde hair with blue streaks in it and bright teal eyes. The shine of the stars and moon glistened upon his monocle.

"What is it?" Walnut asked, unrelenting her glare.

Crouching down to be at Walnut's level, Phantom Bleu said, "There is a case I wish for you to help me solve."

Inside, Walnut's heart did a flip. She loved solving cases! But she could not show excitement to a thief, so she swallowed her happiness.

"Why would I help you?" she asked, trying to hide her true feelings.

"Because I know you love mysteries," Phantom Bleu answered. "and I know you are really excited for it."

"I might consider it if you tell me what the case is about," Walnut negotiated.

"If that's what it takes..." Bleu sighed, standing back up. "Fine. Come with me and I'll show you to the case."

With a graceful leap, Phantom Bleu landed on top of a dumpster and hopped onto the roof of the nearby building. Walnut watched with awe, but then slapped herself out of the trance.

Quickly (but much clumsier), Walnut followed the phantom thief, quite guilty of her actions. The two dashed across the rooftop and Phantom Bleu's feet seemed to make no sound as they touched the surface. Walnut, on the other hand, was trying her absolute best not to make it sound like a bomb dropped with each of her steps.

After five minutes of touring the roofs, Bleu finally stopped on top of the roof of the local museum. Skidding to a stop, Walnut nearly ran off the roof but Phantom Bleu caught her by the collar and pulled her back up.

"Th-thanks," Walnut panted, tired and shaken up. "Now, what do you want me to do?"

"This museum is having a showcase just for kids tonight," Bleu explained, fixing his monocle. "They're only allowing kids in, so I can't go."

"Let me guess," Walnut sighed. "You want me to go in for you, right?"

"Precisely," Phantom Bleu nodded. "And I need you to do something for me."

"What is it?"

"I need you to..."

Bleu paused, the moonlight illuminating his face.

"I need you to sneak in and investigate a crime."
