One Hundred Twenty Seven

For the first time in my career, I feel confident on my own.  I take the following week on my own, back and forth between the recording studio and meetings I have Sydney set up at the house. Devin is on an extended vacation while we hold our feud, and that's fine.  She's still doing her job, just from a remote location.  I take care of the animals we've begun to collect in Malibu.  I'm servicing the cars, helping our staff clean the house, redecorating for the holidays...

We finish recording most of my parts for the music video to my song with Taylor, which is great timing, considering we want to finish the promotional shots for the album itself by mid February.  Everything is on schedule to lead to the rest of the album being finished by the time we announce it in March.  The plan is to drop it just before the wedding in May, so I can have time to do press and design the tour before the honeymoon.

Robert wraps on filming and oversees the plans to tear down set and finish the rest of the editing schedule.  It's a project he's working on behind the camera as well as in front, so he's taking extra care with it, making sure he's available on site for as long as he can be. It's fine, I'm busy enough until he gets back.

My family is set to come into the mountains, meeting us in Aspen for a week's vacation.  I have our team help me pack for us, because Robert's basically landing his jet and refueling; I'm meeting him at the airport.

The week is an early Christmas gathering, since we won't be able to spend the holiday with them this year as previously discussed.  I have that convention coming up - if I still decide to keep it after their low ball contract offer - and promised my mom, after this scare, to spend that week with her, and then I'm back to work and Robert's promoting Jon's movie, since press tour will start for that...

Anyhow, that's enough for that rambling.

On the plane, Robert asks about Devin, wondering what's going on.  I haven't filled him in...just explained that she was with my mom, and then her family, and is extending her vacation.  I guess he's noticed I haven't been talking about her much, or our plans, so it's throwing him off.

"She'll be back after the holidays, I'm sure," I promise when our car makes it to the big house we've rented out, half paying attention because I'm pulling up the photos I took of the house before I left on my phone.  "Did I send you these?  They finished decorating yesterday."

"They?" he questions, popping in a piece of gum before glancing and getting out of the car.

He used to fight to get my door before I get out of the car, but he has since learned that I don't need him to do that and, in fact, prefer to handle myself.

"I had a couple people come in and take out the decorations," I confirm, handing him the phone to navigate through the photos on his own while I button up my coat and the driver pulls our bags from the trunk.  "We can take them," I insist, knowing Robert will fight me, but I don't care; we can carry our own shit.  "Thank you, Doug."

The driver smiles and shuts the trunk and goes back to his seat behind the wheel, leaving us with the house that stands three stories tall in the middle of the mountains, where my family has already been residing for two days.

At this point Robert hands the phone back to me, looking a little discouraged.

"What?" I question as he goes to grab a bag.  "Don't like it?  I can have them change it, or-"

His lip twitches as he nods toward the house, signaling me to talk and walk.  "No, it's very nice.  Very exquisite."

"Okay, so..."

"So last year, you were all up in arms about doing things yourself.  This year you don't even pick up an ornament?"

I guess he's right - technically, I usually insist on decorating.  But with how weird and different my life is...
