"Hey Rach," Devin calls, turning and walking backwards in front of us through her front doors, probably doing a live video feed. "Where are we?"
"Some crazy person's house" I grin behind my sunglasses, teasing her.
"And why are we here?" she asks, still filming.
I bite my lip and lean into my mom as she leads me in, catching her attention as she rolls her eyes at Devin's phone.
"Don't we have a professional camera crew for this?"
"They'll be here soon!" Devin snaps back. "Now, Rachel Marie, how about an answer for your many followers?"
"We're getting married!" I say in a small, cutesy voice, still tired from the night before.
I suffered through the party with just a bit of nausea; not a lot, but enough that I had to fake a smile most of it...including the parts where Gwyn played some fun games at my expense. There were definitely...more things shaped like male genitalia than necessary. I have this feeling that she toned it down the second she heard about the pregnancy, because it wasn't as out there crazy as I expected. My mom did a great job of taking my drinks, so long as I faked tipsy at some point later in the night.
We wound up staying the night at her house, and this morning, I all but shot up in a panic when I woke up before my alarm. Devin, drunk off her ass the night before, is of course perfectly fine; how she does it, I do not know. That being said, when I started panicking, she was still passed out on the floor to the spare room Gwyn had me sleep in, and was definitely not happy with my early morning scare.
All is good, though, and we are...well, sort of on time. It's nine when we get to the house...my old house...and I'm not due at the venue until about noon. The ceremony is at one, and Robert should already be there, if they're on time. Gwyn is en route to make sure the Goop team and wedding planner are setting up efficiently.
"We are about to get this gorgeous bride into her dress, so in case Mr Downey is sneaking a peek," she quips at the live stream, "we'll have to end for now and follow up post ceremony!"
I'm taken to the kitchen to try and eat something before I have to get ready, and it's a good twenty minutes before the stylist and photographer arrive and I'm sat down in a chair in front of a mirror, just as Robert usually is on set when he's getting into Tony's role. I'm never this formal with makeup, not even for premieres or award shows. It's fine, though...my brain's too much of a mushy mess trying to remember to breathe and keep my vows fresh so I don't forget them. Being a writer is a good thing...they were easy. Simple, but easy.
"You doing okay?" Sydney asks, checking on me while my mom and Devin are getting dressed, themselves; she's waiting to get dressed after, since she's not in the wedding party itself, and is keeping me company as they twist my hair up into curls and let it loosely hang at the base of my neck in a low lying up do. "You look a little flushed. And not in the...you know, way."
She hints at it as to not tip of the team, so I smile and swallow, nodding at her through the mirror. Sure, my heart's racing and there's only 8,011 things going through my mind right now, but it's fine...
"I don't think anything actually like...hit me until right now. I was downplaying this all for such a long time, but it's...actually happening," I manage.
She smiles kindly; I'm glad we hired her on when we did..she's been a great personality with Devin and I and our crazy attitudes. Very head strong. Very good at being professional.
"It's okay if you're scared or nervous."
Sighing, I glance down at my hands in my lap over my robe that I've been wearing all morning. They're fidgeting as I try to steady my breathing.
