Light slowly crept up as I emerge back from the darkness. I heard muffled sounds around me: panicked voices, running and heavy breathing. Someone was holding my body in place, and a hand caressed my face gently. I felt a gentle blow of breath on my face and water dripped on my face. The smell of blood filled my nose and pain radiated from everywhere but there was more prominent pain coming from my abdomen. I opened my eyes but unfortunately my vision was still blurred and darkness kept on competing with me as I tried to stay awake and focused.

“Sydney! Eyes on me. Focus! Let’s bring her to the hospital ASAP. She’s lost a lot of blood.” The man beside me carried me in his arms. I felt the hardness of his chest on my arm and his heavy breathing does not go unnoticed. He was definitely breathing hard. I think the man was running. He sounded frantic and panicked at the same time but there was a certain calmness and control to his voice.

He settled me down on a leather seat, I think in a car and he sat down beside me. He grabbed my head and put in on his lap. I lifted my blurry gaze up to the man beside me and he looked down at me. I think he was smiling down at me.

“That’s it Sydney. Stay awake for me baby.” He caressed my face once more and bent down to kiss me on my forehead. I think I managed to give him a smile but darkness seemed to have the upper hand all of a sudden. As I struggled to stay conscious, I weakly lifted my hand up to the man holding me close and touched his cheek.

“Sydney! Stay awake! Sydney!” my hand went limp and fell down beside me. My body went cold once more, my limbs completely limp, and suddenly I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore as darkness wins the battle. I was definitely losing the battle with death.

When consciousness somehow came to me, and I tried to open my eyes, I saw strips of light above me and I heard voices everywhere. A blue human figure hovered over me and someone was taking off my something from body and the cold hit my bare skin.

“Sydney! Can you hear me?” The person in blue looked down to me, his green eyes filled with anxiety and worry. Sweat covered his forehead and someone wearing white, latex gloves wiped the sweat away from his forehead. “Greg, prepare the operating room three! We’ll be there in a few. Sydney I’m taking you to surgery! I’ll take care of you.” The man in blue kissed my forehead and he talked to someone beside him.

“Dr. Graham, the OR is ready.”

“Okay.” His voice sounded panicked but somehow calm. “I’ll be back Sydney.” He touched my hair and he was gone.

Strips of light kept moving over me and muffled voices continued to fill my ears. Suddenly a group of people lifted me and put me down on a colder surface. A bright white light filled the room that blinded me even more. The room smelled sterile and clean, and metal was everywhere. There was a rolling tray beside me where I was lying down and on it was metal instruments that glimmered from the light.

I lifted my hand slightly and the man blue in hovered over me once more. He was now wearing a light blue mask on his face that showed only his bright green eyes. His eyes were a little glossed with tears. He looked really afraid.

“Sydney, we’re putting you under the anesthesia now okay? Close your eyes baby. I’m here and I’ll take care of you.” He kept his hand away from me. I wanted to feel this man’s comforting touch but he kept his hand to himself. I moved my hand once more and the man in blue spoke to me again. “Relax now baby. I’m here. Close your eyes.”

“Doctor we’re ready.”

“Let’s go. Administer general anesthesia now.” My limbs started to get more and more limp by the second, and my vision started to darken. I wanted to fight the winning darkness once more but I couldn’t do it anymore so I decided to let it go. I slowly closed my eyes and everything went completely dark.
