𝘾 𝙃 𝘼 𝙋 𝙏 𝙀 𝙍 𝙁 𝙊 𝙐 𝙍 : 𝙅 𝙐 𝙎 𝙏 𝙄 𝘾 𝙀
AS the wind blows harshly and the gray clouds accumulate, i blankly stare at the sight before me. my closest friend yoongi, whom i met at the architectural firm, wraps his arm around my shoulder. i missed feeling comforted. it's just us alone, clad in black, watching everything unfold: jin's casket being lowered into the ground.
tears threaten to spill from my eyes as i watch. i lean my head against yoongi's shoulder as he proceeds to rub my arm to console me.
"it's okay," yoongi comforts me, looking down at me with a kind smile. i remain silent, knowing that i'll break down if i speak.
the encapsulating silence at the graveyard sends shivers down my spine. as far as i know, jin didn't have any friends or family. yoongi and i were the only people who could ever get through to him. therefore, nobody came to his funeral.
or so i thought.
"am i interrupting something?"
yoongi and i both turn around to face the last person i wanted to see: officer jeon jungkook. as per usual, his two parters are here as well. they stand a suspicious-amount of distance away.
"why are you here, officer jeon?" i bitterly ask, returning to my normal height.
"hana, please, i thought i told you to call me jungkook," he replies with a smirk on his face, completely disrespecting the situation that we're currently in. "i just came to pay my respects as any good officer would."
"is that what your goons came here to do as well?" i retort, eyeing the other two officers with a skeptic gaze.
yoongi stares at me in confusion, surprised at jungkook and i's snarky banter.
"goons? those 'goons' are officer park and officer jung, they're a part of my homicide task force," jungkook scoffs, crossing his arms and staring down at me intently.
"homicide task force? s-so it was a homicide?" i stammer, begin to feel choked up. yoongi quickly takes hold of my hand, squeezing it tightly. "jin was murdered? is that what you came here to say?"
jungkook's posture changes suddenly, his feet shifting slightly. he seems flustered, now glancing back at his comrades. officer park and officer hoseok try to shake their heads at him in a discreet manner, but it doesn't go unnoticed by me.
"n-no! we still don't know yet..." jungkook states, his tone slightly shaky and unstable. "forensics is still running tests on the dna samples we retrieved from the body."
i simply nod at him. i'm beginning to think that there is definitely something off and wrong about jungkook and his 'task force'.
jungkook's stare suddenly flickers above my shoulder. his eyes shrink, as if he were trying to focus on something. yoongi and i both turn around in the direction of jungkook's gaze, but we only see trees and their branches waving in the air. we look at back at jungkook, who now looks somewhat defeated.
"everything alright, officer jeon?" i question, making a purposeful emphasis on his title.
"yes," jungkook quickly replies, way too quickly for everything to be 'alright'. "now if you'll excuse me, we must get going. we're needed down at the station."
without giving me the chance to reply, he gives me a tilt of his peaked cap and returns to officer park and officer jung. they huddle up together as they walk towards the parking lot, swimming in a sea of whispers.
"that officer gives me the creeps," yoongi shudders as we watch them walk away. he turns back at me with a worried gaze. "hana, are you okay?"
"no," i blatantly respond. hey, it's the truth.
i leave yoongi's grasp and walk towards jin's tombstone. my heart swells up with solemness and grief as i read what's written on it.
kim seokjin: a man with small words but a big heart
1992-2020i feel a sharp breeze against my skin. i shudder as i look up from the tombstone. the branches of a nearby tree move abruptly and a black blur passes by in an instant. i almost miss it, but i don't.
someone is here- watching.
"hana, everything okay over there?" i hear yoongi call out.
my eyes drift to the casket. my heartbeat quickens as a sense of panic takes over me. i kneel down on the ground, my breath hitching as i do so. a tear finally streams down my cheek.
"jin, i don't know what happened to you or what is happening right now. but what i do know is that i will bring your life and memory to justice."
