"I'M kim taehyung: kim seokjin's brother."

taehyung's words cut through the air like a knife. my heart drops. yoongi and i share confused looks.

jin didn't have a brother.

"what're you talking about? jin didn't have a brother," i manage to say, my voice quiet and full of doubt.

a hearty chuckle erupts from taehyung's lips. his confident gaze lands on me. "did jin not have a brother or did he just never just tell you about him?"

jin was never one to talk about his past or his family. i always assumed they weren't close and that he didn't feel comfortable talking about it. but after having been his girlfriend for almost a year, i felt a little hurt that he didn't trust me enough to talk about it. nevertheless, i respected his privacy.

but now, as i stand here facing taehyung, i can't help but feel my heart ache. taehyung's features remind me of jin. he is definitely telling the truth.

"he didn't tell me," i mutter, my eyes slowly watering up. as i wipe away a tear, i feel a pair of arms engulf me in a hug. it's taehyung.

"it's okay, hana" taehyung comforts me. i close my eyes and allow my tears to stain his black leather jacket.

after what felt like forever, taehyung pulls away from the hug first. he smiles slightly at me, his eyes with the same caring look that jin's had. taehyung's demeanor has drastically changed.

"now," taehyung begins, "it's about time that you learn the truth. both of you."

THE three of us sit in a scattered manner across my living room, mugs full of tea in our hands. taehyung bounces his leg up and down nervously, unsure of how to begin the conversation.

"where to begin?" taehyung awkwardly says, laughing slightly.

"take your time," i chime in.

taehyung warily nods at my statement. "well, first of all, jin and i are brothers. the reason he didn't tell you this is because he wasn't allowed to."

my eyebrows furrow in confusion. "wait, what do you mean 'wasn't allowed to'?"

taehyung sighs before taking a deep breath. he leans forward in his chair, resting his elbows on his knees. i am afraid of what he's about say.

"jin wasn't a florist, that was his cover," taehyung states, much to my own confusion. "jin was a part of the house of cards organization, as am i. actually, he was the heir and current leader. it was a family business."

house of cards organization? family business? what the hell is taehyung talking about?

"hold on," yoongi interrupts, donning a dumbfounded expression. "you're telling me that shy and reserved kim seokjin was the leader of the fucking mafia?"

"mafia?! don't be stupid, yoongi," i exclaim, my heart pounding in worry. "i'm sure that's not what taehyung meant."

"nope. yoongi's exactly right," taehyung confirms. yoongi and i lock eyes with each other incredulously. this cannot be real.

"things were getting a little bit heated between us and our rival organization: the cyphers led by, you guessed it, jeon jungkook. jungkook isn't an officer, it was all just a cover to get to jin. basically, we decided to put jin in a witness-protection-program-sort-of-situation. he was not supposed to get attached to anyone or reveal any private information about himself, but then you came.

you two met and he just couldn't help but fall in love with you, risking his own life to be with you. what we didn't know was that the cyphers were onto us. once they saw you move into jin's apartment and the both of you going out together, they wanted to put an end to everything. jin was too happy for their liking."

my breathing becomes uneasy as taehyung drops all of this information on me. jin was the leader of the mafia. he was undercover this whole time. him and i weren't supposed to happen. jungkook and his team killed jin. jin put his life on the line for me.

and now he's dead because of me.

"i killed jin," i cry, my eyes full to the brim with tears. everything was just too sudden, an overwhelming feeling taking over me. yoongi sits next to me and hugs my side.

"not really."

i look up from my lap, my eyes bloodshot-red. taehyung actually seems... happy? it makes me sick. "what do you mean?"

"what i mean is," taehyung says, leaving his seat and crouching down before me. his next words come out in the form of a whisper.

"jin is still alive."
