THE bell atop of the door chimes as i walk in, trudging my luggage along. the sweet aroma of flowers takes over my senses. i smile in content.
my eyes travel across the many aisles of different flower arrangements, ranging from peonies to carnations. they all look so colorful and delicate. i could get used to living in a place like this.
at the cash register, i see a couple speaking with a man behind the counter. i slowly walk up to them, standing behind them in line with my luggage besides me.
"yes, of course we can accommodate that," i hear the man say, although i cannot see him. "it'll be white roses for the ceremony and white orchids for the reception, right?"
the couple, who i'm assuming will be getting married soon, eagerly nod. they look at each other momentarily, those few seconds oozing with affection and devotion. their eyes shimmer with pure bliss.
i wonder when i'll ever experience what they're feeling.
the man soon finishes up their transaction, which leads to the couple leaving. i give them a warm smile as they do so, mentally wishing them a happy life together.
"next!"
now that the couple has left, i can clearly see the man before me. his body is lean yet muscular, his face soft yet sharp. this man manages to look intimidating and endearing at the same time.
i've never met anyone like him. i'm immediately intrigued.
"hi!" i greet, way too loudly. "i'm not a customer, actually. i'm hana, i'm supposed to move into the apartment upstairs. do you know where i might find kim seokjin? i understand he's the landlord here."
"i'm kim seokjin," the man, now known as seokjin, states. he chuckles at my flustered state. "come, i'll take you upstairs."
"lead the way, seokjin," i cheer. gosh, i must sound so annoying.
"please, call me jin," jin winks before leading the way up a tight staircase. without giving me a chance to retort, he picks up both of my suitcases and carries them up the stairs.
"thanks," i quietly mutter once we reach the top.
"no worries."
we trudge down a hallway where there are only two doors. i look around, spotting pots full of flowers and plants in every empty spot available. the walls are painted a bright white and there are large skylights adorning the ceiling, making the hallway appear much more spacious than it really is.
"the door on the left is mine, yours is the one on the right," jin explains, proceeding to unlock the right door and pushing my suitcases inside.
the inside of the apartment is very similar to the aesthetic of the hallway. maple wood runs across the floor of the apartment and rays of natural light bathe the living area. large windows overlook the city, there to remind you that you aren't in some botanical garden.
on the dining room table sits a large bouquet of daisies. seeing that i have found them, jin runs over and brings them to me.
"here, i made this arrangement for you. take it as a housewarming gift."
jin gives me a soft smile as i grab the flowers, taking in their sweet scent. "that's really sweet of you, jin. thank you."
"ah, don't even mention it."
"okay then," i chuckle. it grows quiet between us, so i search for a topic of conversation. "so... are you originally from seoul?"
i see jin grow tense at my question. "uh, i've been around. you're from busan, right?" he asks, quickly changing the subject. his cheeks start becoming flushed, giving them a red tint.
"born and raised! but i moved here because of a job offer at an architectural firm."
"oh, that's nice. being an architect must be cool."
"not as cool as being around flowers all day. you must've studied botany, right?"
"yeah, of course... botany."
i eye jin with a skeptical gaze. he seems really nervous all of a sudden as i ask more about his personal life. i decide to shrug it off. not everyone is an open book.
he does look cute when he's nervous, though.
"well, i should leave you alone so you can settle in."
"oh, right. thank you for your gift and for being so friendly," i beam as jin makes his way to the door. before he turns the handle, he turns his head around to face me.
"welcome to cornelia street, hana."
