"We need to go!" Wally said as he picked Joseph up by his neck. The tan skin man yelped, surprised by the speedsters strength.
"Hey, I was watching Chris Hemswort-my son down there!" The younger man squeaked. Wally gave him a cold look. It was one of those glares he had only reserved for Dick Grayson, Lawerence Crock, and some ice flirt named Cameron. It sent chills down Joseph spine.
"We have more serious issues going on than you wanting to yank it to Thor."
"In my defense- No, there's no way to make this look good, is there?"
Wally huffed before he pulled Joseph over to Peter. Wally nudged the veteran with his foot and he stood up. He looked more mad than the redhead of the group. He dropped his expression when noticed Wally's.
"What happened?"
Joseph shrugged, "I don't know. He probably saw Artemis. She probably moved on, got married, had a kid, and adopted six cats."
The runner rolled his green eyes, "José, you are a waste of death."
"If you want to play like that, so are you, Pendejo," He crossed his arms just to be shushed by others looking into the river. The curly headed man just stuck his tongue at everyone else.
Wally huffed before he snapped his fingers to teleport them to somewhere else. In a flash, they were in his bedroom. Peter immediately laid down on the speedster's bed. Joseph plopped down on a bean bag.
"I was right about Artemis," Wally stated. He walked over to his nightstand where he kept the picture of Artemis, Brucely, and him.
The veteran spoke up, "What do you mean?"
"She's dying?" Joseph blurted out. Peter immediately grabbed one of Wally's pillows and threw it at the latino's nose. "OW!"
The redhead shook his head when he looked at the two. They clearly wouldn't be any help. His two friends weren't like the ones he used to have. If he had Dick, he would be able to talk him through everything. Dick would help him figure things out. Kaldur would give words of wisdom because he was older and wiser. Conner would probably say something wise too. Artemis would straight up give him the answer. None of them could help him now.
Wally took one look at his friends, who were arguing back and forth. He put back the picture, closed his eyes and snapped, transporting him to somewhere else. If he was alone maybe he could think.
When he opened his eyes, he was in his flat in Pluto Alto. A deep feeling unraveled in his cut when he saw it. For three years, he never went back to this place. He couldn't be in it without Artemis and Brucely. It wasn't home without them. The furniture was all the same as he remembered it, probably because it was all really in his head. But there was no dog to sleep in the doggy bed and no Artemis to hang up archery trophies on the wall. It was just lonely.
The speedster sighed as he sat down on the couch. It felt the same as he remembered. The house looked exactly as he remembered. The nostalgia hit him full force. Although he had only lived in the flat for two years, it was still his home and held so many memories.
He remembered when it was only him and Artemis. They had just moved in and had a mattress. The two put it in the living room and just laid on top of it. Artemis told him that it was so quiet. Wally joked and said he knew a couple ways to make it loud. She smacked his chest and they just stared at ceiling. After a few moments of silence, Artemis suggested they make a pillow and blanket fort. They didn't have blankets, so they went out to target and bought some. They also bought some glow in the dark stick on stars and stuck it to their living room ceiling. It was the best night ever.
Wally smiled at the memory. He missed moments like those. He wanted those back, but he bit his tongue. If Artemis was dying, he would get them all too soon. That was selfish. He didn't want Artemis to die. She had a future to carry out. She was going to finish school, become a professor, and have a family of her own one day. If she died now, she would have never accomplished her dreams. He knew it was like to not live out your dreams because he wanted all the same things.
Artemis still had a life to live. She couldn't die now. She was supposed to die from old age surrounded by children, grandchildren, or even great grandchildren. Her life couldn't be taken now. She was meant to be one of those people that seemed to live forever. People like Wally were meant to die young, like Joseph and Peter. Death was supposed to come easy to them. Not Artemis.
The speedster let out a shaky breath as he rested his elbows on his knees. He buried his hands in his hair. Small tears gathered in his eyes but didn't spill. He thought he wanted to be reunited with his spitfire. He knew he would one day because death couldn't be avoided, but never this soon. Things were taking a turn for the worst.
A/N: Sorry for taking a long time to upload. I'm going through something. Anyways, I switched the POV order. I didn't want to write, to be honest. It was just easier to write from Wally's prospective this time.
