The last week together went by slowly. Alola was such a beautiful place, you wouldn't leave it for the world. You had no reason to be in the Professor's way anymore, so you'd bought a very small apartment overlooking the beach.

He had insisted you stay until Ash and Emily left, which you kindly obliged, despite the desperate urge to leave very quickly and get away from everything.

Your sadness, like the ambition to become a police officer, faded. The handcuffs were now buried deep in your bag, forgotten. Your room was almost empty, with only pieces of paper and random prices of clothing littering the floor.

The house now seemed very quiet, thick with tension. Confusion was replaced with excitement. The world seemed to turn slower, as if understanding you wanted as much time as possible with your family.

Way sooner than you wanted, the day to leave arrived. Most of the house was bare, aside from Kukui's things. Time seemed to stand still as Professor Kukui drove the family to the airport.

Emily and Ash collected their boarding passes and now it only the wait to the plane to Galar in between your time without Emily and Ash.

You sat on a small white chair with luggage littered around you, Ash and Emily talking animatievly to each other, and Kukui checking out a magazine if knitting. But you sat staring at the floor, your hands on your head.

You were happy that Emily and Ash were going to have a brand new adventure, but also sad they were going. You could've gone with them, but decided you were going to live in Aloha for the meantime, and who knows? Maybe even settle down with a family.

At the thought of a family, your mind drifted back to James. Where was he? Not that you cared. But you did. You cared very much, and was going to miss him so.

It wasn't his fault he was leaving. He had no choice. But if you could just persuade him to stay in Alola... Maggie would be more than happy to provide a job for him in her shop. He could always live with you... Be happy, for once...

You excused yourself from the others to go to the toilet, but were stopped halfway there by a hand on your arm. "GAH!" You exclaimed, turning round in suprise.

The person immediately took their hand off. Emerald green eyes pierced yours, and you realized who it was in an instant: James. Speak of the devil.

"James... What are you doing here?" You asked, rubbing your arm sheepishly. "I'm leaving." He said sadly. When you studied him closer, you noticed that his eyes were slightly red. Had he been crying?

"I really don't want to... But I have to... Don't think it's because if you... It's not, I promise... Just... Please, just b-" "I understand." You cut him off. He stopped abruptly and looked up at you.

"You do?" He asked. "Of course." You whispered. You quickly wrapped your arms around him and cried silently onto his shoulder. "I d-don't want y-you to leave... B-But I know you don't h-have a choice..." You said.

You enjoyed each others' embrace for a while. "I'll keep in touch, and I'll visit. I promise." He said, pulling away and tracing your cheekbone with his thumb. "Ok." You said, smiling.

"This must be horrible. Your sister, brother..." "You." You finished. He nodded. "Look, I'll come visit too. And we can call..." He said.

You just nodded. Then an announcement came overhead that their flight had just arrived. You felt slightly guilty that you didn't spend that time with your family, but this was essential too.

James went to grab his on-plane bag whilst you went back to your family. You walked with them to the plane, then Emily broke down to tears when it was time to say goodbye.

You hugged her tightly, and waved her off and she boarded to go and find her seat. "Goodbye, Y/N." She said as she disappeared fron view. "Y/N." You turned to Ash.

"Thank you." He said, and held out his gloved hand. You went to take it, but pulled him into a hug instead. "No, thank you." You said. "Next time I see you, we'll have a battle, and I'll be so much stronger and beat you!" He said confidently. You laughed. "Yeah, ok." You said, letting him go.

"Bye!" He exclaimed as he too, disappeared. "Goodbye." You whispered. Kukui left to go and stand outside and wave out the plane.

"Hey, Y/N." Your glassy eyes fell upon Jessie. "Hey, Jessie." You said. She shook your hand and bounded into the plane. "See ya, twerp." Meowth said without a backwards glance.

"I'll see you around." James said. "Yeah." You smiled, and so did he. "Goodbye, James." You said. "Goodbye, Y/N."

Your arms found their way to his shoulders, and soon you were so close you could feel each others' breath. You closed the gap and kissed him softly, knowing it may well be the last one.

Neither of you wanted to leave, but knew you had too, there was no two ways about it. Finally, you parted and he too boarded. "I love you, Y/N." He said sweetly.

"I love you too, James." And with that he disappeared.

As the plane took off, an amazing sight met your eyes. All of Ash's friends were on some kind of
flying-type Pokémon, flying upwards with the plane.

You could make out a small boy waving from one of the windows. You grabbed the tissue you'd stored in your pocket and started sobbing into it whilst a large smile was plastered on your face.

You watched the plane slowly disappear from view, taking everyone with it. The bright golden sky grew gradually darker as the sun started to set under the beautiful yellow horizon.
