warnings: animal attack, mentions of a panic attack and, surprisingly, no angst as far as I can tell.

Valerie

I sat at my usual desk in History class right by the window in the second row to the back. I liked sitting in the back. There weren't as many people watching you and it was more private. God, that sounds so lone wolf-y.

I never liked that word. I just never liked wolves I guess. Plus it doesn't make any sense. Wolves aren't alone. They hunt in packs and mate for life. Lone cat, lone bear, lone fox, and even lone sloth would've made much more sense.

My eyes drifted to the new girl when she walked into the classroom. Her name was Kira and she was really pretty. She was Asian, had long wavy black hair, and doe-like eyes. She was wearing a purple and black flannel dress and a black leather jacket.

With all that had happened recently, I could really use a friend, and since Erica was no longer around and Ethan had gone MIA (maybe there had been some truth to what Stiles said) I would have to make some new ones.

She stopped in front of Scott right beside my desk.

"Hi. I'm Kira," she said. "You knew that. I knew you knew that. I don't know why I just told you that again."

Scott smiled and Kira shook her head.

"Anyway," she said as she took her backpack off of her shoulders. "I have something for you."

"For me?" Scott questioned.

Kira nodded and opened her backpack. "Yeah. About the Bardo. My explanation was sort of all over the place, so I did some research and printed it out for you."

Scott chuckled. "Ah, you didn't have to do that."

"It only took a couple of hours," Kira reassured as she searched through her backpack.

"Wow. Then you really didn't have to do that."

Kira didn't answer but continued searching. It seemed like she couldn't find the research. "I swear I printed it out," she insisted.
