The New Spider-Woman (Book 1)

7 - Boarding School

Sunday, January 19th - 10:36 am

"So what are you doing?" Peter asked, laying down on my bed. 

"Finishing a project," 

"What is it?" 

"A song for Music Theory." 

"And what are you doing after that?" 

"Um, lunch with you?" 

Peter smiled. "Sure, so you're writing a song?"

"Yeah, I'm writing it with one of my friends." 

"Oh, who?" 

"Luke,"

"Oh. Tell about your siblings." 

I looked over at him. He changed the subject quickly. 

"I didn't even know you had any," 

"There's Chelseh, my half-sister, she's 29. She lives in New Rochelle. She's married and has 3 kids. 2 stepsons, and a 2-year-old daughter. I don't get to see her often cause she works a lot." 

"Sounds nice,"

"What?"

"Um, like being married and having kids. It sounds like she has a nice life." 

I rolled my eyes. "Then there's Josh, I think he's about the same age. I've only met him twice cause he lives in LA. Half-brother from my dad. He's married and has 2 daughters." 

"LA?" 

"Yeah, he grew up there with his mom." 

"Oh,"

"Then T.J., he's 25. He lives in Brooklyn with his girlfriend. We aren't really that close. He has a daughter but she lives in upstate with her mom. I haven't seen her since she was 2 and she's like 6 now," 

"Aw, that sucks." 

"Yeah, I know. There's Sam, who you met yesterday. He turns 24 tomorrow, we're not that close either. He just moved into an apartment with his fiance in Brooklyn." 

Peter sat up. 

"And then there's my little sister. Jennessa, she's 13," 

"She doesn't live with you?" 

"No, she goes to boarding school upstate." 

"Oh, bad kid?" 

"She's annoying but not a bad kid. My mom thought a boarding school would be better for her, I don't know why." 

I closed the notebook. 

"Done?" 

I nodded. I went over to my closet and grabbed my jacket and shoes. 

"What are you thinking?" He asked as he moved to the end of the bed. 

"I'm kinda in the mood for chicken nuggets." 

Peter laughed. "McDonald's then?" 

"Yeah," 

I went out to the living room and told my mom. 

"You taking the fire escape?" She asked. 

"Yeah,"

"Mind bring me back a chicken sandwich?" 

"Yeah, sure. Fries too?" 

"Yeah, you need any cash?" 

"No, I'm good." 

Peter and I climbed down the fire escape and started walking towards the nearest McDonalds. 

- 4:36 pm

I handed the notebook to Luke. 

He took a minute to read the additions I made to the song. 

He looked at me when he was done. "You wrote this?" 

"Yeah, why?" 

"Cause it's really good." 

"I told you I've written before." 

"You didn't tell me they were any good."

I rolled my eyes. 

"Ok, I guess we're done." 

I took the notebook and put it in my backpack. 

"I have some questions."

"About the song?" 

"No," 

I sighed. "About Spider-Woman?"

He nodded. 

"Ok, just ask them."

"Have you been Spider-Woman the entire time?" 

"Yeah,"

"So a year and a half?" 

"Yeah," 

"When did you get your powers and how?" 

"August 2018 and I got bitten by a spider."

"Really, that's it?" 

"It wasn't just a random spider, it was glowing so..." 

"Oh, cool. Um, I'm guessing you aren't gonna tell me who the others are?"

"No, have you told anyone about me?" 

"No?" 

"Good, 'cause if you do, Statue of Liberty." 

There was a knock on my window. I opened the window and saw Peter sitting on the stairs in his suit. 

Peter looked at Luke and his lenses went wide. "Um, hi, ma'am. I found this phone and I believe it's yours." He said with a distorted voice. Suit thing. 

"He knows I'm Spider-Woman." 

"What? How?" He said without the modulator. 

"He was in my room when I got home the other day," 

"Oh, well you left your phone in my backpack earlier." 

"Thanks," 

"Hi," Luke said. 

Peter waved at him. "Hey," He looked down at me. "Did you tell him about us?" He whispered. 

"No, I'm not an idiot." 

"'Kay, see you tomorrow?" He asked, standing up.

"Yeah," I said before he swung away. 

"Can I meet Arachnid, too?" 

"No, Luke."
