4                    Curious

1990 October

The potions class was rough to say the least, Luke was atrocious at following instructions and couldn't stop touching everything. After they hurried out to breath the fresh air, Mage scurried away to her elective class and Elena continued onwards to hers. "My favourite hufflepuff! Heard about your little prank." From out of nowhere the two twins popped up on each side of her, both wearing their notorious grins.

"Hello, Fred and George." She smiled, choosing to ignore their mischievous eyes. "I have never seen Diggory so baffled before." George laughed, Fred followed soon after, and they filled her in with the necessary details. Elena, who had left breakfast early, had missed the opportunity to see it in action. George told her that his head had swelled, not too much but still visible. Mage had in fact forgotten to mentioned it, which was strange - very strange indeed.

Elena liked being accompanied by the twins, still curious about their grinning from ear to ear. "What do you want?" Fred bit his inner cheek, shooting a glance above Elena's head, and George seemed equally speechless. "Just to talk-" George begun speaking with a not so innocent glint in his green eyes. "Of course." Fred ended his sentence, per usual, trying not to seem suspicious.

Elena's eyes bounced from twin to twin and she scoffed. "Honestly, I know you want something, the question is what." Fred and George adored that she could somewhat read their thoughts, always figuring them out. Even their mother couldn't tell them apart, but Elena could. "You-" Fred started, a smile unworthy of this world on his lips, and George continued. "-as an addition to our little squad." Their little squad was infamous on the school, nearly worse than Peeves, the poltergeist.

"You two and Lee Jordan, a trio made in hell."  She laughed at the idea, seeing herself with the boys. The three lions and a badger joining forces to make Argus Filch's life a living hell - he always had to clean it all up. "See, you would be perfect." George teasingly poked her with his elbow, begging her with his eyes.

What happened next was priceless. "As long as we don't get caught." George was the first twin to really let the words sink in, his whole face brightened up of pure felicity and he glanced to his brother, waiting until he caught on. Fred couldn't believe Elena, his face frozen in denial, until George's gleeful eyes met his. "Bloody hell!"

Elena, spending to much time studying, had not the pleasure to eat dinner, she wanted to hurry back and finish a paper before it got late. She needed something to eat, since her stomach was protesting, and decided to visit the kitchen swiftly. "Hello?" A voice called out the second she stepped her feet in the kitchen. Elena, excepting a houself, softly answered."Hi?" Since the first visit at the kitchens, she had always an extra polite demeanour.

"We have never been formally introduced, I'm Cedric Diggory." The lingering glance she could feel on her skin belonged to nobody else than Cedric Diggory. She shook his hand gingerly and spoke. "Elena Silverthorn." He couldn't keep away the curious smile, it just felt right. "The infamous girl who pranked me." Elena's face was tinted slightly red but she covered up nicely with her untamed hair. "I have never done such thing." Elena claimed shrilly and hesitatingly, surely exposing herself.

Cedric amusingly grinned, he couldn't resist admiring the beauty. "I have a feeling Mage doesn't really likes me, at all." He noticed her eyes glistening, the unavoidable obvious answer danced on her face - of course Mage didn't like Cedric. Elena didn't need to answer  - they both knew the answer - that Mage wasn't a fan of Diggory.

"Why did you try to prank me?"

Elena awkwardly took a defensive step back, nearly bumped into a houself. She tried imagining what Mage would say, but his eyes gazed straight into her soul, forcing her to answer quick. "Huh? Just trying things, nothing else." Anxiously, she tried seem convincing- which she certainly was not. "I've never seen you prank anyone else." Curiosity had taken over his head, completely controlling his mouth.

Elena, the nervous wreck, pulled herself together, since she didn't need to be nervous around him or nobody else. "Well, I'm with the Weasley twins, you will see a lot more in the future." It stung a tad in Cedric's stormy eyes as he watch her proudly speak, 'I'm with the Weasley twins' felt like thousands nails pierced his skin, but he straightened his back. He thought Elena wouldn't notice anything had shifted in the atmosphere - but she did.

"As long as I'm not the target, it's fine." Cedric spoke smoothly and picked up the toast he had before asked for, the houself left without a word. "Everyone is a target." Elena blurted, knowing the twins probably had a list of names, but couldn't let Cedric believe that. "Can't you make an exception?" Elena saw how frightened his face was, as if he was truly shaken by the idea. "Scared, Diggory?" She scoffed, while the twins was notorious, Elena was the least harmless.

"Frightened, honestly." The sarcasm tried to mask the reality. They gazed into each other's eyes, feeling the tension of waves roll over their skin. "Good." Elena giggled mischievously, still stuck in his eyes. At that moment the young Hufflepuffs gazed at each other, Cedric not minding it at all but it infuriated Elena.
