❝ I used to get upset by people not understanding me but I've made a career out of it now ❞

70 days of summer remaining

"And the stupid streamer wouldn't stick to the tape so I had to . . . "

Unbeknownst to Jonathan, across the table he had caught the eye of June. She thought about how after the album ended when he pulled out his SG, how her jaw dropped when he performed near perfect reiterations of Blackmore solos they heard mere moments prior - truly in awe she littered him with praises, something she'd normally never do yet he dismissed it as a silly talent of his.

"Don't tell me you've caught a liking for my brother." A frosting covered Charlie groaned from beside her, breaking her out of her thoughts.

"Quiet Kid." She joked, flicking him in the ear. "Not that it's any of your business . . . but no, I do not fancy your brother."

"Then you might want to close your mouth while you stare at him."

Two, then three cars whizzed past June as she sat in her driveway, unconsciously picking at her skin as her own nervousness ate her alive, consuming her whole.

She'd come home half an hour later than she promised, a cardinal sin in the eyes of her fanatical mother. June didn't dare admit she had been at a boys house, because to Marie, her mother, men were the 'genesis of evil'. The grinnin', slobberin', sniffin' dogs ready to taint her young daughter.

Of course June didn't buy into all this overvigilant nonsense, she was more worried about getting her record player taken away again.

As the night cooled and a chill crept upon her exposed arms, June couldn't avoid her mother much longer. Grabbing her bag off the pavement and wiping her bells, she made for the door, cursing to herself as the screen door filled the bottom floor with a high-pitched whine.

Almost scripted, Marie sat hidden away in their obnoxiously large recliner - rollers in her hair and pink slippers on her feet. Most notably, a scowl, a deep scowl on her rose lips.

"Juniper! Who do you think you are coming home at this hour?!" Her admonishments flew over June's head, the young girl much more concerned about how long she could hold her laughter - not taking her mother seriously as she stomped around in fuzzy, bunny slippers.

Nine. Nine fifteen PM the clock in the center of the family room read.

June stayed silent as her mother scolded her. "All I could do was sit here and worry about where my daughter was and you didn't even think to call?!"

"Room, now!" Marie pointed a bright red, manicured finger at the stairs. "Goodnight!"

June feigned sadness as she climbed up the staircase, her room being the only place she wanted to be after the day she had. She'd take a bubble bath and relax to some Zeppelin if she felt like she needed it.

"And if I hear an iota of sound come from that record player I'm selling the damned thing!" Her mother shouted from downstairs almost reading her mind.

"Effin' clairvoyant." June muttered to herself as she plopped into her duvet, deeply asleep before she could even turn out the lamp.
