Chapter Seven

Raymond eventually had to lift me up and carry me over his shoulder again because I wasn't moving. Lucilla and her demon dragon were long gone and Raymond wanted to go see how the fight is doing. When he finally put me down we were on top of a huge ledge. I don't even remember how we got here because I felt numb.

I'm probably never going to get back home, am I?

I looked at Raymond and he looked very happy at what he was looking at over the cliff. I slowly turned my head and took a step back at the sight I saw. There was a massive black dragon blowing a white flame down onto the ground whilst a white blur spitting black flames flew around it.

There were a few other dragons but those two seemed to be causing the most damage and were the most scary. Raymond looked at me as I took a few steps back. "You know, they won't hurt you."

I shook my head, "I don't care, I want to be as far away as possible from them."

He sighed, "look, I'm sorry that some witch brought you into this mess, but it looks like you're just going to have to deal with it for now."

I looked at him in disbelief, "how am I supposed to 'deal' with this?"

He shrugged, "easy, because I'm going to help you."

My face fell into a blank expression, "why do you even want to help me?"

He smirked a little, "because you keep things interesting."

I rolled my eyes at him and scoffed, "get the stick out of your ass.

"Its not in my ass! I like being around you. You're really different and interesting. Its like a breath of fresh air because even though you know my status is above you, you still just call me Raymond. And I like that."

I looked at him silently for a minute, "as long as you wash that blood off of you first."

He laughed and nodded, "sure thing. I'll do it next week."

My eyes widened, "you-"

He cut me off, "I'm joking!"

"You better be," I crossed my arms over my chest. He kept staring at me but eventually he brought me back into the caves.

We ended up in more rooms that I had never even knew that existed. I really need to go exploring more or something because there is a lot of caves around here. He sat down onto a bed and smiled at me, "so, this is my room."

I raised an eyebrow and looked around. It looked just like every other room except for the fact that it had only one bed and a wall filled with weapons and the weird looking yellow egg on a table in the corner of the room. "So that's your dragon egg?"

He looked at it then nodded, "yep." He seemed a little sad but I wanted to look at it closer so I walked over to it. He watched me quietly as I kneeled in front of it to get a better look.

I was quite big, bigger than any egg I have ever seen. If you looked at it really close you could see that it wasn't just yellow but also had a lighter tint at the top and a darker tint at the bottom. It was rally smooth and kind of shiny. I smiled back at him, "ombre coloured egg, nice."

He scrunched his eyebrows in confusion, he probably didn't even know what that meant.

I stood up and walked back over to him. I stood right in front of him and I felt kind of cool because I was finally taller than him. I smiled a little too smugly, "hey look, I'm taller than you."

He rolled his eyes, "is that seriously what's going through your mind right now?"

I scrunched my eyebrows, "what do you mean? What are you thinking about?"

His eyebrows slowly lifted and I took a step back as I realized I was standing really close to him. I put my hands behind my back and interlocked them then looked around his room one more time, "so, you really live here?"

I was trying to get off the topic and avoid it at all costs because I've known him for a week and we cannot cross into those waters. At least not with me. That was a bad idea.

He laughed - a little fake laugh, I could tell - "no I don't live here. We've been staying here during the war hoping the king and his army won't find us."

"Well that didn't work too well," I commented and he looked at me a little annoyed.

"Yea, well we are probably going to have to move now anyways." He shrugged, "might as well pack up your stuff."

I sighed and opened my mouth to say something but the sound of something breaking stopped me. Both of our heads turned to look at the egg but none of us moved as we realized that the dragon was finally hatching. It stuck its head out and Raymond stood up from his bed so quickly that he almost pushed me over in the process. But he didn't care about me as he walked over to it in a few strides.

I watched as the dragon let out a little roar - if you could even call it that - and Raymond broke out into a smile. He looked at me and smiled then looked back at his new dragon and petted the little things head. I feel like I’m intruding on some special moment, but I could be wrong. I tried to look anywhere but at Raymond, which is hard considering he doesn’t have many things in his room. Mostly just weapons, and I didn’t want to look at those.

After a few minutes Raymond came over to me with me huge smile on his face. “Clea, meet Ira.”

I looked at her unsure, what was I supposed to do? This was the first dragon I’ve ever met. “Um, hi?” I looked up at Raymond but he was too happy to care about how awkward this is for me. Ira started to run across his arms like she was trying to play with him and he laughed.

Well, this was getting weird really fast.

I took a few steps backwards then hit the cave wall next to the door, I didn’t realize I was that close to it. Raymond wasn’t paying attention so I slowly left his room and turned down the hall that would bring me to my room.

When I got there I let out a breath of air, I need to sort out my life and try and figure out what is happening. I went over and sat down onto my bed and thought about it. So dragons are real, and apparently witches are too - because that is how I supposedly got here. There are such things as lord’s and lady’s and king’s and queen’s. They have armies and fight with swords.

Showers are scarce and blood on your clothing is normal for a man. Women wear dresses and have no rights whatsoever. A woman came back from the dead and she's the only one who wears actual pants, well other than me.

I’m probably going to be stuck here for the rest of my life. That’s just great.
