The next morning Marik woke me up quite early. I wasn't even close to fully rested and the sun wasn't even a little ways up. We could hardly even see anything!
"We have to get going," He told me frantically but also quietly.
I sat up slowly and watched as he was folding his blanket and pushing it back into his back pack. He put it on his shoulders then looked at me and sighed. I haddn't moved because he moved fast and I was fucking tired.
He took my blanket off me and started to fold it which made me break out into shivers. I was way to tired for this. He shoved it into my bag then pulled me up off the ground. I swayed a little from the sudden movement and he turned me around to put my backpack on my back.
The he turned me to face him again and buckled the buckle on my chest, "we have to go now Clea."
I yawned and shook my head, "its too early."
He shook my shoulders a little, "someone if following us Clea, we need to get going now."
Someone is following us?
I looked at him blankly for a second, my mind still half asleep. Then it clicked, we were being followed. We could be in danger. I opened my eyes a little wider in fear, now realizing what this meant.
"Okay," I nodded once and Marik started to lead the way, carrying on from yesterday. We walked pretty quickly dispite the fact that I wasn't even close to awake yet.
We made our way upwards today, which was also hard. The mix of me still being sleeping and the upward climb made me trip a lot and kind of slowed us down. But Marik wasn't avoiding me at all today and helped me up every time I fell and encouraged me to keep going.
Around noon we cleared the trees and I could see the top of the mountian we had been climbing. Mind you it was another hundred miles upwards. We followed the tree line along the side of the mountian until we go to the end of it where the valley was. By then it was lunch and my stomach was growling like no tomorrow.
Marik stopped to let me sit and eat for a little bit, but then he seemed more alarmed and made us start moving again. I tried to hear if something was following us, and even looked behind me tons of times, but not once did I see something there.
I was staring to wonder if something was actually there.
At the edge of the valley Marik stopped for a second, looking around as if something was wrong, then went into the tree line. He started to constantly look back at me as if he was really worried. I felt a little uneasy in this valley, maybe he did too.
Kind of like something was constantly watching me. At some point I decided to pass the time by watching my feet and counting how many steps it took between each and every tree. It was a lot more fun than worring all the time if something was watching us or following us all the time.
I suddenly came to a stop when I ran into Marik's back. He had stopped at the edge of the tree line where there was a huge clearning.
I stepped off to his side to look at it and there was nothing in it, so why did he stop?
I went to take a step forward and he shot his arm out to block me, "don't you see it?"
I gave him a confused look, "see what?"
He looked at me in anger and frustration, "this valley is filled with spirits." I looked back at the clearning. To the left was endless grass. To the right was also endless grass. You couldn't see an end to this clearing other than the other side which was about to hundred yards away.
There was nothing in the clearing, it just felt like it didn't belong here.
"I see nothing," I told Marik. He let out a huge sigh. "As we say in camp, Can't go over it, Can't go under it, Can't go around it, Got to go through it!"
