Dance with me at least?

Cheryl's pov:

My stomach lurched as I sprinted into the school's bathroom and held myself precariously over the sink. I knew this had been a mistake to come. I should have just stayed at home like I planned to but being the hbic of Riverdale High didn't help with that idea, if I hadn't have come there would have probably been no prom to attend. I looked at my reflection, my mascara was smudge down my pale cheeks from the tears I had tried to hide on the way down the hall. I usually wasn't an emotional wreck but tonight had been different. My asshole of a boyfriend had just broken up with me on the dance floor, out of all places, and left me a laughing stock in front of his friends. I sensed another wave of nausea coming to my throat, it's not that I've been terribly into him, Infact I was planning to break up with him myself in a couple of days. It was just that everything at riverdale high has to be on my terms.

I sniffed a few times and took care to fix up my hair a little. I could've asked Betty or Veronica to come with me but they seemed too busy attempting to entertain their own dates. I could've chosen literally any boy to take to prom and they would've worshipped me but I always ended up choosing the school play boys. The ones who thought just because they were handsome they didn't need to put in any effory. The ones that would probably drop out of college and end up working at McDonald's. The ones that made you feel like you needed to prove your worth for their attention. I couldn't help it.

I heard the flush of a toilet in the story behind me and froze. Very few people had seen me in a breakdown and this intruder wasn't about to get a chance. Cupping my hands with the ice cold water, I splashed it in my face wiping away the remaining mascara. A quick scan in the mirror told me I no longer looked like the dumped girlfriend but a party girl ready for a night out. My red, wavy hair hung loosley around my shoulders in a half up and half down hair style. My makeup looked untouched on my features now, I had gone for a look to accentuate my oak brown eyes and it had worked amazingly with the crimson dress I had opted for- red was my colour.

The stall door swung open with a bang and none other than the Toni Topaz emerged from it, in an flattering navy coloured dress. Avoiding my eyes, she made her way to the sink furthest away from me. I couldn't blame her, I had been her biggest torment for the best of three years, freezing her our at cheer practise, excluding her from any activity I could and and the countless rumours I had started. Little did she know it was my jealousy that caused me to bully her mercilessly. She seemed so comfortable in herself when she joined riverdale high and when I saw her not attempting to become one of my puppets I felt outraged. She preferred to sit with the serpent gang instead of the vixens even after I had sent countless invitations veer her bestfriend Betty. So I had watched her from afar, throughout the years and felt the jealousy when she spoke to and made friends with everyone she could but me.

Now we stood let them a meter away and I could sense her eyes had finally settled on me. I pretended not to notice and carried on pretending to fix my eyeliner in the mirror.

"Hey, you look like you could do with this," came her voice softly. I turned, met with a tissue clasped in her extended hand.

"Thanks," I muttered in a bitter tone- I didn't mean to use it but my mood had been ruined. My hand brushed her warm one as I took the offering and sent chills down my spine. It was obvious my attempt to hide my tears hadn't been as sucessful as I had hoped.

"You want to talk about it?" She asked gingerly, hoisting her self lightly onto the ledge next to the sink, her dress floating down beside her- she looked ravishing to say the least.

"No," I replied matter of factly. Refusing to meet her gaze. She continued to study my face, as if I was a hard equation she was trying to calculate.
