Moon Twelve

It was as if a door had finally been opened. So what if there was homework, it was only to numb the pain of losing her, but now I knew I could find her… Homework would have to get lost!

School finished as normal but I did not wish to waste time cooped up in my room. I had to search for her, today would be the normal places, nowhere new just in case she’d gotten herself lost.

I walked to where my bike was parked, whistling Guns ’n’ Roses tune as I went. I stopped, someone was by my bike, kneeling in front of it, and an enormous grey sweater was nearly a tunic on the person. I heard them shake something with a rattle and as they lifted it into view I could glimpse a spray nozzle on it…

They had gone too far!

“Hey, you there, what the hell are you doing to my ride?” I called starting to quicken my pace. Alarmed the figure dropped the can and took off. Increasing my speed I ran after him as they curved to the right, towards the trees.

Dropping my bag I ran after them as they went towards the suburb closest to the school, before long I was gaining on them.

“STOP RIGHT THERE YOU MONGREL!” I yelled my insults somewhat mild to what I could have thought up, “you won’t get away with it!” Letting my claws start to retract, gait become stronger I gave it my all in one bond and pounced. I landed about a foot away from their current position and in one quick strike I dug my claws into the back of his sweater.

They halted as the thick fabric started to rip in my grasp. They quickly gave up soon afterwards. Letting my claws vanish I clasped their shoulder and turned them towards me.

“Right,” I began reaching for the hood, “let’s see who you are.” I let the hood fall back. I stared hard at the person.

Tanned skin, dark eyes showing menace, dark brown hair, messy growing over his face, and a somewhat crooked nose. I was staring at that punk Jay.

“You,” I said anger increasing as my heart race grew faster, “you wrecked my Yamaha!?” He spat at my face. I cussed as the saliva dripped off the edge of my nose and ran along the top of my mouth. Glaring I wiped it off my face.

So you think you can get away that easily?” I threatened boring into his eyes.

Stuff you,” he retorted a strong Puerto Rican accent, “You think you’re so tough just because you’re bigger than our seniors!” He answered back, “I ain’t scared of you! I’d take you out any day and dance all over your grave!”

What was that punk? Dance all over my grave? Like hell I’d let a badass son of a bitch beat the life out of me!”

Don’t talk ‘bout my mum like that!” He yelled finally squirming out of my grip, “unlike you my mum’s still alive! Suck that!”

“How… Dare… You….Tell…Me….To… SUCK THAT!” I roared lunging at him, which he missed by leaning back and then forwards before running off.

“Don’t come near my ride again!” I yelled at him, he flipped the finger and I rolled my eyes before storming off, infuriated.

“So you know who did it?” Tony asked me as we sat at his place on the deck eating a bowl of peanuts. He consumed most of them already without me even touching them.

“Yeah, he’s this no good punk who’s been known to vandalise school property and set off a smoke bomb in the boys bathroom.” Tony eyed me curiously.

“And how did he manage to do that?”

“He hooked it in the light bulb so that when someone would turn the light off it would explode,” I was shocked when he started laughing.

“Hey quit it! I was the one whom it exploded onto!” This made him laugh even more. I remember that I had to take four showers that night to get the smell off me. The shirt I’d been wearing had gotten some of the debris stained on it so I had to throw it out.

But man what genius,” Tony admitted wiping his eyes from laughing, “I mean I knew you were bad at school but you seem much more of a monster than he is.”

“Gee thanks,” I muttered folding my arms over my chest, “was I really that bad?”

“Dude, you scared the living daylights out of the kids,” Tony replied, “it’s amazing how you haven’t been expelled yet.”

“I never hit any of them,” I muttered. Tony stared at me, wide eyed and gaping.

“W-what, you never hit them? Then all those rumours people think…?”

“Are not true,” I answered, sliding down in my chair, “never did I give anyone atomic wedgie nor flush anyone’s head down a toilet.”

“But if that’s so then why are you still…”

I didn’t want to let anyone get close to me,” I answered staring at the sunset sighing, “ever since I learned of my abilities… Of the curse I’ve hated the idea of another dying because of it,” I blinked slowly melancholy strong in the air, “and then…She came along and I…” I sighed again, “I was too far gone to realise that it could happen again,” Tony nodded and I hoped this meant he was over it.

Then something else seemed to creep across his mind, “hey Cole… You don’t think…? That kid, had something to do with what my nana mentioned to you?” I had told Tony about it as soon as I had arrived home. I paused for a moment, and then my eyes went wide.

How would he know my mum’s dead?” I questioned, aloud. Tony thought and then a sly grin came across his face.

“You know…” He began a mischievous, “you could follow him, and see if he does anything suspicious….” Trust Tony to think of stuff like that!
