Moon Six
I managed to wake up in the foot of a tree, surrounded by dark, sturdy roots which were nearly hoisted out of the ground. I slowly stood but banged my head against the tree. Rubbing my sore crown I could see that I must have changed back somehow....Wait.... When did I fall asleep? I grabbed a fistful of my t-shirt which was slightly darker than normal. It was damp, so were my jeans.
I lifted my hands to my gaze, turning them over; dirt was stuck in the fingernails.
D- Did I hunt last night..? I tried to remember but there were just quick flashes, black and white figures and faces. I saw a bloodied face and gasped.
"Luna!" I said turning my head fast but unable to see anything.
Where am I? Slowly but carefully I began to move away from the tree and around in where I appeared to be.
Mud covered the ground, mashed with brown decaying leaves.
That's right I remembered that it was autumn, the date....
No I don't know I clenched my fists hard.
Why...Why can't I remember a single damn thing?
COLE!!!!! Tony's loud message echoed in my head, I held my hands over my ears grimacing as pain droned in my skull.
What the hell Tony? I've got a blasted headache!
Dude I've been calling you for the last hour or so, trying to reach you with my damn thoughts! He paused for a moment. Cole, what happened?
I'm afraid I have no.... I sudden image came back to my mind, it wasn't pretty.
Their hairy mangy bodies, gnawing at her flesh....
They.......They got her, I managed to tell Tony, for I was still watching the flashback replay.
Who got her? Tony asked calmly, I wanted to lash at him for being so relaxed when I was the complete opposite.
They got her, I said feeling desperation start to overcome my shock. The Sumanitu Taku got Luna!
Calm down Cole, Tony said trying to be comforting, bad question to start with, ok where are you?
Where? I turned around to glance at the humongous trees around me. I didn't feel like mentioning breeds at the moment though I had learnt to recognise them through the different smells of the flowers and barks.
I'm at.... A gentle breeze rippled through the land sending seeds from the plants flying. They spun around and down, boomerang shaped, light brown I watched as they descended like helicopters...
I'm at sycamore Evan I answered holding out my left hand as I caught one of the fliers before turning my hand upside and letting it spiral on to the earth.
You’re that far from home? Tony seemed to scoff, stay where you are and I'll come get you.
Thanks but won't be necessary I answered moving towards one of the slopes and clasping hold of a root sticking out I need to sort myself out.
Why? Do you think that...? Cole, did they do something to you? I would have been touched by his concern if I wasn’t concentrating last nights’ event.
I don't know I answered sadly, for some reason I can't remember the things that... A memory flash back came to my mind, this time visual sound effects of gnawing teeth and low growling. I felt bile rise to my throat
No LUNA! I cried, forcing myself to swallow the painful sensation and holding back an unexpected lump.
Cole you sound as if you're a wreck; I'll get there as soon as possible!
No Tony! Dude I began breathing deeply, I'm fine, don't worry, I hesitated for a moment I'm going to sort myself out I promise.
Ok, let me know as soon as you get home dude.
Sure I will Tony, now will you clear off?
A chuckle was heard in my mind Alright, take care Cole.
Then he was gone.

After I managed to climb out of the valley (or sycamore Evan) I decided that morphing back would be the fastest way to travel.
I slowly changed, only to quickly re-morph back. Ignoring the failed attempt I tried again, this time I changed back less than a minute. I cursed at the ground, this only happened when I was exhausted, had little energy or had forgotten how to. I eliminated the last option, I knew how to, if my body would have let me.
Deciding not to try and waste any more unnecessary energy into trying again I began my long and exhausting trek through the woods. Gazing at the sky for a moment I concluded that due to the sun not being very high in the sky it was still early in the morning, probably seven or eight am at the latest. As I came to a hill where I looked out over the scenery, my phone beeped. I took it out, five bars close to a strange tower icon appeared in the top left corner, flashing slowly.
There’s reception out here in the middle of nowhere? I thought lifting it out to see my battery was almost dead. Then I had a gut feeling in my stomach, one I get when I feel that I should or should have done something.
Call Luna is what it told me so I did; on speed dial as fast as my fingers pressed the buttons.
Holding it up to my ear I felt myself go silent, I breathed slowly, gently. It rang in my ears for a long time.
It rang out. Funny I’m sure she still keeps it on her, but why wouldn’t she answer?
Maybe they're on holiday? I wasn't convinced since it was half way through the term and nobody took holidays during that time, unless they were pure genius’s and didn’t have to worry.
Shaking my head I trudged on, slowly.

I wasn't sure where I was headed but as I cleared the trees I soon realised it was where I wanted to be. Her house, it was different to what I had imagined. She'd told me that it was old, but it was not that old! Our houses would have been close in age if they were given an exact age.
That wasn't the concern, it was empty.
I stared at it, unable to determine if what I was seeing was real.
Not a single car was parked on their driveway, their clothes line empty, the interior was dimly light with the occasional gap through the daggy curtains (she was right about those).
Swallowing hard I went to the front door, hesitated then knocked on the dark green wood. No answer. Gently pressing against the door I leaned over to check the closest window only to have the door push open. Why would someone leave their door open?
Tripping in the doorway I felt a carpet burn on my face as I landed in their hall way, more formal than our house.
I fought back the urge to go any closer for fear was greater than curiosity. Cautiously I stepped back away from the empty building, a lump the size of an apple in my throat.
It can't be I exclaimed shaking my head as I walked back, eyes wide.
No... She and her family have to still be here! It's just not...
Just not possible? I froze, the same flashback from before looping in my mind, shaking my being to the core.
No I exclaimed they can't be gone! It's not possible..... Luna.... Luna....! LUNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unable to take it all in I raised my head to the sky and howled loud and long.
