Checking the rearview mirror as Madison drive to her ranch she inherits after someone special in her life pasted away and no it wasn't her father or mother or grandparents, she just finished her long shift at the small-town police station, her town isn't too far from the city Dallas maybe three hours or so. She turned her black Ford raptor off the main road into the gravel path with the sign Jack. J. Daniels's cattle and Horse Ranch, she sighs, she stopped her truck in front of the old beautiful, white ranch house even, though the inside was renovated about three years ago when she was twenty-one, she got out of her truck and was greeted by her border collie Lassie and German shepherd Duke,

"Hey, guys did you miss me" she cooed, she unlock her front door and the two dogs stormed inside and she just smiled looking at them yeah, she walked towards the kitchen and took out the ingredients for mac and cheese, and start making it when she saw her dad's pickup stopped behind her truck,

"Madi are you home baby girl?" her dad called from the front door she poked her head around the corner of the kitchen "I think I am home daddy, after all my truck is in front of the house" she replied with an eyeroll. "How I missed your sarcastic remarks princess" he said with a smile when he came into the kitchen and gave her a bear hug "So, daddy why are you here?" she asks not looking up from where she is busy putting the macaroni in the boiling water on the stove "Can't I come and check on my favorite daughter" he said looking at her with a sheepish smile "Really, dad you should know better than to lie at a marshal deputy" Madison said to her dad, he sighs "Your mother is worried about you princess"

she turn to look at him "She has nothing to worry about I can handle myself perfectly" she said turning to make her special recipe cheese sauce "I know honey but what she means is you are livin all alone in this big house with only two dogs and no other company" she turned to look at her father "I know dad but I love it here nobody bothers me here and I don't bother them" she stated with her southern accent dripping of her tongue "I know baby girl, but don't ya think it's time to move forward it's been four years" her dad said in his southern accent, she just gave him a look that said drop it.

"I will live here like it or not" she said after a while "Plus I have Mason helping me around here while I am at work" she said and pop the mac-and-cheese in the oven, and started washing all the dirty things. "I know, but have you ever ask your brother if his is happy?" she turned to look at her dad "Well I did plus his ranch is the neighboring ranch so he doesn't have a problem bout it, and his fiancé loves this place too she helps me train horses over the weekends here since my brother's ranch doesn't have the arenas I have here" Madison said finishing of her argument her parents been trying to move out of this house for the four years she has inherit, and she is too stubborn to move back to her parent's house which happens to be on the ranch her brother owns.

"Fine then I leave it there since clearly your happy here, it's just your mamma is worried" he said smiling at "I know but tell momma I can handle myself and plus I am a deputy I can shoot and get away with certain things without abusing my position" she said with a smirk, her dad chuckled "That's my baby girl, so do you mind if I stay for dinner?" she turned around smiling while putting her hand on her hip "Yes, you can stay let me guess mom made veggie soup and said something along the line Tyler Ryder Sterling you are not eating healthy and need to lose weight since you are retired and not working anymore" her father almost fell off the barstool laughing at her expression of her mamma

"My baby girl you know your mother too good, she did actually say that when I asked her when are we going to have a decent meal again" she laughed "maybe Dad need go some sort of exercise you compromise if dad go walking or hiking mom should cook you a good meal" Her dad thought it over "I think I might convince her but then you should call your mamma and said you're coming over for dinner" her dad said with smirk "dad you should convince mom I am not gonna get in the middle of this" she said while chuckling, "Darling this is the best food I had in days" she started laughing "No wonder that's why you look so sick dad, mom is really serious this time" she said shaking her head with a smile after her dad left she went upstairs to the master bedroom seeing on the big king size bed, lays Lassie whining "I know girl company would be nice" she said patting her head. She went to shower, after her refreshing shower she flops down on her bed and in seconds fell fast asleep.
