Poe hung his head in his hands and tried his best to choke back a sob. The doctors had said Finn lost a decent amount and he'd go in for a blood transfusion. He'd be okay but he couldn't stop replaying those images in his head.
If he wouldn't have keep annoying him or if he would've kept his cool and just shut up like Finn told him to it wouldn't be happening. It was all his fault.
And those men. The thought of those men nearly made Poe punch a wall but oh how it made his body tremble. He should've done better or tried harder to get to Finn. And if something was to happen now-
He couldn't stay still any longer. He stood up and began to walk up and down the hall and finally to the restroom so he could try to calm himself down by splashing water on his face.
When he looked into the mirror, Poe nearly jumped. He hadn't seen himself like that in such a long time that he forgot it was even possible. There was blood and dirt caked on his face with tear streaks running through it.
He cursed at himself for feeling bad when Finn was bleeding out no more than an hour ago. There was no reason for him to have self pity when the fucking love of his life could've died.
He stood still after the thought passed his mind. He had never said those words before and the deep intensity of it scared the shit out of him.
"The love of my life," he whispered to himself in the mirror. His face softened and the corner of his mouth curved ever so slightly at the title.
He definitely wasn't lying to himself. He was in love with Finn. He'd been so deeply in love with him for so long, he could barely remember the first day he realized it.
He sighed defeatedly. Anytime today he could've said it, or maybe after he had broke up with Lily or really any day in between.
No, he thought, I should've just told him I was going to fall in love with him the day I met him. Yeah, that was it. He should've told him from the very beginning.
And now... now Finn was hurt because of him. He didn't even want to let himself see him but he knew his heart would give in sooner or later. There was nothing that could keep him away. All he wanted was to wait by Finn's side until he was alright again and as soon as he was, he'd tell him. It wasn't much of a plan but it was a start.
Poe was going to tell him.

It took an hour for Poe to finally be allowed into the room where Finn was being held. When he opened the door, he peered inside to find him asleep. He had figured that much.
Poe dragged the small one seater couch next to the bed and pulled his legs up to hug them. He wasn't sure how long it would take for Finn to wake up but he didn't care. He'd wait for hours, days he needed, but he swore to himself he'd be there when he finally did.
It did take a few hours. It was almost twelve in the morning when Poe fell asleep in the chair quietly snoring away. The rest was much needed- although he wouldn't admit it.
A few minutes after Poe fell fast asleep, Finn cracked open his eyes and saw a dark ceiling. He momentarily forgot where he was and what happened until he felt a sharp pain in his side.
Oh yeah, that thing, he thought as he took in a sharp breath of air and let it out slowly.
He turned his head to the left and saw Poe curled up on the seat next to his bed. He smiled at the sight and sighed relieved knowing his best friend was next to him and getting some sleep. It was good that he had woken up while Poe was asleep- he knew he would've freaked out if he wasn't (and he was right).
The moonlight hit Poe's back and cheek and made him look serene, something that he often wasn't before because of how anxious he would be. But he had been doing much better in the last few months, especially after they moved in together.
Finn was so extremely thankful for having Poe with him. His whole atmosphere changed after he met him. He'd always been a generally happy- as far as that word really went- but it was completely different after he met him.
He felt whole. And that feeling was what made it so easy for him to fall for Poe, even if they fought every now and if shit like this happened, his love for him never even once deteriorated.
It was so easy for him to think it but saying it was another story. But he wanted to tell him so badly and finally, he thought he just might. So he decided.
Finn was going to tell him.
