CHAPTER 23: A Crash After The Burn
I lean against my locker, just watching her...not creepily, just insanely in love with this woman who uses her locker like a library cubicle as she types away on that laptop of hers. I was technically waiting for the others, thinking she was with them but, No. She was in my direct line of sight now. Simply leaning into her locker, a shove on my shoulder has me directing my now thoroughly annoyed eyes to the man who would dare disrupt me.
Ivan smirks at me, childishly, "So, what have you conducted in watching her over there? When really, you're suppose to be conjuring up a way to ask her over to your parents place, for dinner?"
Andrew looks distracted as he glances around Poppy, "How is it that I'm able to find her but, Rosie and the rest of them seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth?" He says, in his own annoyance. Ivan and I turn to his sloppy mood, he rolls his eyes, gesturing to Poppy.
"Well, did you text her?" Everdeen asks quietly, her and I were still detached almost. I didn't like the way she saw Poppy, when she truly didn't know her enough. We haven't talked since, Ivan seems to regard her in annoyance. Turning away from her and merely looking at Poppy. I shove at his shoulder to stop but, he does nothing. Thinking I meant for him to walk over, he jogs over to her and I squint my eyes at him for that, coming from a man who can't be fucked with athletics and has only started on weights because he thought he was too 'lanky'.
I was only a second behind him as he slows down to Poppy's locker, straightening his suit, he clears his throat and says squeakily, "Princess, what are you doing?" His face cringes at the sound of it but, I'm watching as Poppy visibly jumps in surprise, slamming her laptop closed, eyes widened.
"Whoa! Someone's jumpy." He says quietly, kind of concerned as Poppy wraps one dainty pale hand around her locker door, I glance down at the silver ring on her finger, it almost looked like an engagement ring as I furrow my eyebrows at it. Now, normally I wouldn't just stalker stare into a girl's hands but, she wore expensive jewellery yet, didn't seem to care when she'd receive compliments about them. Her hair was down today and looked as though she'd had it trimmed a little on the back, aligning it. Her hair was beautifully layered and she curled most of her strands behind her small ears, revealing the longer crystal earrings.
When she moves her emerald eyes up to us, she looks at each one of us, sadly not lingering longer on anyone of us and she furrows her eyebrows, obviously confused.
"Is everything alright?" She says, almost breathlessly that I was taken aback for a moment, she was looking at Ivan and his entire body freezes at her breathlessness. I was seriously about to intervene, wondering why the hell something just clicked between the both of them but, Poppy wasn't nearly as affected as Ivan, who reddens at the back of his neck. She closes her locker door.
"We're alright, the question is, are you?" Everdeen asks, bluntly but, quietly when she glances at my profile. I don't give her the time of day. Poppy moves her eyes to Everdeen where I glance at where she fidgets with her fingers, I try to read her expressions but, it's fruitful useless, I can never read her.
