A couple of nights ago, I had this crazy dream. I haven't had the opportunity to tell anyone in real life about it, except I'll probably show this chapter to my parents before I post it, so... : T
Anyway, there was a lot of events in my dream that I couldn't keep track of, but the thing that stuck out to me was the fact that I was a werewolf in my dream. I don't why I was a werewolf, I wasn't born a werewolf and I wasn't bitten by another werewolf. Maybe I was under a spell or something. There was a lot of things that don't make sense in this dream. In my dream, I was on a camping trip or something (I could've sworn parts of the dream was also on a cruise ship) with a group of other werewolves, and they invited me to join them in a traditional boar hunt. So, we're just walking through the forest in human form looking for traces of a boar when the smallest member of the group discovers four, abandoned, wolf pups. We take the pups to a nearby animal shelter, and they take the abandoned pups. But the runt of the litter, which they had already named Rusty somehow, was too weak and would probably die in a few days, so I decided to adopt Rusty. Being a werewolf, adopting a wolf pup was more like adopting a child than adopting a pet, so I was now officially a mom. The others suggested that I went back to camp since Rusty was too young for a hunt. So, I took Rusty to the camp and started building our bond as mother and son by familiarizing each others' scent. Later, the others brought us back some boar, and that's all that I can recall from my dream.
Now, why bring up my dream in this book? Firstly, dreams are a source for story ideas and planning. Sometimes, when I'm trying to fall asleep, I focus on one of my stories so that I could dream of the story line. Another reason, I found this part of my dream quite interesting and I think that I would like to expand on the idea. So anyway, I present to you this story idea. 🐺
My name is RaeLynn, and there is one thing that I love, it is my cat, Sirius. We used to cuddle together whenever we could. But then one day, he started to act really strange towards me. He would yowl at me, and avoid me whenever he could. It wasn't like I had suddenly become a stranger to him, for he had never treated a stranger like this, it was more like I had become his enemy. I tried everything to rekindle our friendship. And finally, little by little, he became less tense around me. But that was just the beginning of my problems.
One morning, I woke up feeling very different. I sat up to figure out what was wrong, when I saw two gray paws. I turned around and saw a sleek, fur-covered body slip out from under my covers. A fluffy tail followed, and as I twisted to get a better look the tail moved away. After circling on my bed a few times, I realized that I was not in my regular body and I leaped to the ground and hurried into my bathroom. I had to rear up and place the two paws on the sink in order for me to look into the mirror and see a grey wolf. I tilted my head to the side and the wolf mirrored me. I opened my mouth, but shut it back up when I saw the carnivore's teeth. There was no use denying it, somehow, I had become a grey wolf. I raced back to my room and checked my calendar. The date showed that there was a full moon that day. I was going to start pacing when I heard a growl. Sirius was coming from behind the bed with his fur fluffed up and his eyes focused on me.
I took a step back while keeping my head low, but I tried to softly speak to him, "Sirius, it's me. I'm RaeLynn. Remember? We used to cuddle up together before going to sleep."
Things became more astonishing as Sirius spoke, "RaeLynn?"
"Yes. The human with long hair. That's me."
Sirius was quiet for a moment before he asked, "If you really are my human, what happened to you?"
I perked up when he called me his human, but I shook my head, "I don't know. Today is going to be the full moon, so maybe I won't be a wolf for long. But what am I supposed to do now?"
"I don't know. I don't think that there are many places in the house where you could hide."
"You know what? Whatever! I'm just going to get ready for the day like normal."
"This isn't exactly normal."
I ignored Sirius and went back to my bathroom. After a lot of trial and error I stepped out of the bath and rolled on a clean towel to dry off. Then I returned to my room and wiggled into one of my shirts and attempted to pull on a pair of shorts. "I wonder if I could just ask my parents for help," I muttered to myself. I grabbed my phone and found a stylus, so I was able to navigate my phone and text my mom, "Help I'm a wolf."
I waited for a response, but none came. I couldn't think of anything else to do but curl up under my covers and nap the day away. Sirius jumped onto my bed and curled up on my tail. We just laid on the bed, Sirius left every once in a while but otherwise, we were there all day. Until the call for dinner came. I felt tense, and sure enough, after a while my room's light was turned on.
"RaeLynn, it's time for dinner!" my youngest sister said from the doorway.
I held the covers tightly over my head and let out a moan, hoping that she would tell everyone that I was too sick to come to dinner. But my attempt went over her head.
She came into my room and tried to tug back my covers, "Come on, RaeLynn." But I kept the covers where they were, determined to keep my sister from seeing that I was a wolf.
Finally, she stormed away, but it wouldn't be long before my mom came next. I called out to Sirius, "Sirius! I need your help, please!"
"What do you want me to do?" he replied lazily.
"Just act unusual. Hiss and yowl angrily, and if she comes near my room, then attack her legs." I could already hear her footsteps come down the stairs. "Hurry!"
"Alright. Fine," Sirius said as he left the room.
Soon, I heard Sirius making loud noises, and I heard my mom trying to ask him what was wrong. The noise continued for a few minutes, but eventually my mom came into my room. "Why won't you come up for dinner?" she demanded.
My body shook, but my head burst from under the covers and I faced her, "I've already told you why!" The shock on her face filled me with so much emotion that I jumped from the bed and ran past my mother and up the stairs. In the kitchen, my younger sisters were startled but I ignored them and unlocked and slid open the back door.
I couldn't think of anything to do but to hide underneath the playhouse that stood between the old shed and our apple tree. I waited in anticipation for someone to come after me, but thankfully no one came. Eventually, I was waiting for so long that my eyelids drooped and I dozed off.
The sun still hadn't risen when I woke up again. I was relieved when I saw my hands instead of paws. I was a human again, though I was wearing both my pajamas from last night and the clothes that I had put on yesterday. I climbed out from under the playhouse, and going around to the front I used my password to get back inside the house.
I sneaked into my parents' room and shook my dad, "Dad?"
He opened his eyes and looked at me, "RaeLynn?"
"Dad, I need to talk to you. I'll wait for you in the kitchen," I whispered before sneaking out and into the kitchen. I had just poured myself a cup of milk when my dad came in. "Sorry for waking you so early."
"It's okay. Is everything okay?"
"I'm sure that mom told you about the wolf that ran through the house last evening?"
"Yes."
"That wolf was me." He was quiet as I explained what happened to me the previous day. When I was done, I placed my head in my hand, "I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. I don't know why I turned into a wolf and I don't know what I'm going to do about it. All I know is that yesterday was the full moon."
"Don't worry, RaeLynn."
"I'm trying not to. But it's not everyday that you turn into a quadruped and try to not freak out the entire household." I let out a sigh, "But I guess that I failed that."
My dad just hugged me, holding me to let me know that everything was going to be okay. And it looked like it was going to be okay.
After a week there weren't anymore changes. But I did get a strange letter in the mail. When I opened it the first words I saw were, "Welcome to the pack."
