Avery
"You're such a prude oh my god!" Skylar yelled as she ruffled through my closet. I regret letting her pick out my outfit. I sat in nothing but a towel on my bed watching her throw my clothes all around the room.
"Girl, go do your hair." She yelled at me. I rolled my eyes and got up. I grabbed underwear and threw it on dropping my towel. I walked into the bathroom. I brushed my hair back into a ponytail and let out loose strands on both sides. I put on a little mascara and then walked out back into my room. Skyler grinned holding out an outfit. In her hand was a tight low-cut tube top and leggings, which I didn't even know I owned. I shook my head.
"No, just no." I reached into my closet and grabbed my oversized Hawaiian shirt, my mom jeans and belt. I quickly slid the jeans on and button up the shirt, lightly tucking it in after. Skylar watched me disapprovingly.
"Averyyyyy, this is supposed to be your year! Senior year, girl. You need to get laidddd, and that is not the right look for this. Men aren't into that." She fell back on my bed and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not wearing tight clothes just to get laid. I don't care enough. I don't even want to sleep with a guy." I said doing up my belt.
"Sure, Avery, sure." She laughed.
We walked along the suburban streets to get to school. Skylar grabbed my hand and we swung our hands. I looked at Skylar who was smiling and singing "Young, Dumb and Broke," and swaying her body. She had worn a tight shirt with leggings which didn't surprise me at all. As we made our way to the street before school George came running towards us.
"My two favourite girls!" He grabbed my waist and lifted me over his shoulder. I laughed and hit his back. "Let me down, Georgeee." He set me down on my feet and then gave a big hug to Skylar.
"So, how was camp? We couldn't stop talking about how you were going to come back with some artsy girlfriend and stop talking to us." Skylar teased and I nodded.
"It was actually fun. The kids were so chill, I thought it would be hard being a counselor, but it was a blast. And sadly, no girlfriend. Most of the girls working there were gay weirdly enough." My face went red for some dumb reason and I looked away. We continued walking to school. We still had 15 minutes until the bell rang but Skylar wanted to scout out the new people and how people had changed over the summer. After we left George's street the ocean was in view. I never stopped loving the sight of the ocean, even after seeing it every day. The school was in sight and we made our way there.
The quad was packed with students of all ages talking and chilling. Two boys were throwing a football and laughing. The aesthetic of our school was so cliché and it made me happy. A couple sat in the grass kissing. Skylar stopped and put her hands out to stop me and George. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"This is it guys, our last first day." She smiled widely and turned to look at us. I shook my head and George put his hand to his heart, "aww you're going to make me cry, Sky." We all laughed and started to walk towards the door. We walked the halls and I felt a rush of sadness. I didn't even think about all the extra stress and work now in my life. We approached the area with our lockers and noticed Taylor running towards us. George embraced her in a hug and Skylar and I hugged her afterwards.
"I am so glad we are finally back together!" She squealed and hugged me again. She had stayed with her grandma in Italy all summer. I stared at her outfit. She was wearing a sweater, in this hot end of summer weather.
