It was 10 am, and Valerie just woke up. As she got dressed and prepared for a new day Rivi popped in.
"Hey what's up," she sounded rather nervous.
"Not much, just getting ready for breakfast. Is everything alright Rivi, you seem a bit worried?"
"Well, to be honest, I didn't get much sleep yesterday night. I don't think we can trust Kevin very much. Let's see what he has in store for us today. I think if he's actually up to no good then we will know by our activities today. Let's hurry though, the rest of the gang are waiting for us." Rivi rushed out the door and waited with the group for Valerie.
Valerie was really worried about what would happen, but the word "gang" really hit her. For the first time ever she felt like she was welcome. She felt comfortable, relieved, she knew that whatever happened her friends would be by her side. With that thought in mind, she felt eased and quickly dressed herself into some proper clothes and head out to meet the rest of the group.
As soon as they finished eating breakfast, Kevin made his announcement of the day. This time they were going to do puzzles. Everyone groaned, they all hated puzzles. Fiona and Frankie were probably the only ones interested in solving puzzles were particularly excited. Frankie had a lot in common with Fiona since they were siblings. For the rest of the day, the group was silent.
They all did puzzles and had general conversations. Valerie's mind was spinning. First, they had to do martial arts and then puzzles, she was certain this was a trick. She had to watch out and be careful just in case anything happened. Even though she had never been to camp before, she certainly didn't expect to play these activities. When the children at her school spoke about the camp, they talked about fishing trips not martial arts classes.
The thoughts swirled in Valerie's mind the whole day. She had no appetite for food or snacks. She didn't even bother solving the puzzles very much. Eventually, the day went by, Kevin was acting real suspicious. He kept eyeing the group which made things really awkward. He assigned so many other boring tasks. Valerie didn't even bother trying to do the activities, and surprisingly Kevin didn't mind that at all. He wanted serious people only, which was another hint that he had something in mind. The rest of the gang worked hard which seemed to really please Kevin.
That night Valerie fell asleep thinking about Kevin and what he may be up to. She knew things were going to change soon.
