"Remus..." I start to say, but he interrupts me.
"Bria, I've told you a thousand times. I'm fine being a loner during the school day."
"Well I'm not." I argue.
"Too bad."
"Please at least let Lily-" I start to say, but he interrupts me.
"Then you would be the loner."
"I don't care. I was a loner for six years."
"But you know that they'd say things if Lily was gone."
"They already say things."
"Okay, even worse things. I think that's worse than me being a loner, Bria."
I cross my arms stubbornly. "Fine. I'll find you a friend, then."
Remus raises an eyebrow at this, and sighs. Then he goes back to his book.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It turns out that finding Remus a friend is harder than I thought. I didn't really think this through, I think as I look around the Common Room from my table in the back. I think the real problem is that I don't have any friends either (besides Lily), so I can't ask one of them to hang out with Remus or to recommend me someone who will. Instead I have to guess and see who's nice enough to do it.
Then all of the sudden it pops into my head. "Oh!" I say, jumping up from my chair.
"What?" Lily asks, looking up from her essay.
"I'll be back." I tell her, walking to the portrait hole.
She follows me, asking, "Where are you going?"
"I'll tell you later." I reply, leaving her confused inside the Common Room.
I walk down the halls, practically skipping. I feel really proud of myself for thinking of this great idea, and I really hope it works. I walk to where I vaguely know the Ravenclaw Common Room is (I see Ravenclaws head this way after dinner), crossing my fingers. A smile forms on my face when I see her walking to the Common Room, alone.
"Elizabeth!" I call out to her, and she turns around.
Elizabeth has long, curly brown hair that hangs halfway down her back. Her hair isn't the unmanageable curly though; it's slightly curly, so it hangs perfectly on her chest like a stylist did it. She has wide dark brown eyes, and a pale complexion. She's also tall and lean, standing so that my head would be even with her chest. Her wide eyes are even wider now that she sees me calling to her. "Bria Noble?" She asks uncertainly, as if I can't be real.
"Yes. I have to ask you something." I answer, and I take a step forward.
Her foot twitches a little like she wants to step back, but she stays in place. "W-What is it?" She asks a little nervously.
"It's about Remus." I start to say more, but she cuts me off.
"Remus Lupin?" She asks, her eyes getting impossibly wider and blush spreading across her cheeks.
"Yes," I say impatiently, and I think, Who else? "You've probably noticed that he's been a bit of a loner lately..."
"I have." She says excitedly, like she knows what's coming.
"Well, I want the best for Remus... And he needs a friend. Will you be his friend? You're one of the nicest people here, so I knew to ask you."
She smiles big, her cheeks completely red and her eyes still impossibly wide, "Yes, yes, yes!" She blurts out, hopping up and down on the spot. It's a little scary of a sight.
I give her a smile back, though it's not nearly as wide as hers. "Thank you, Elizabeth. Just don't tell Remus I asked you, okay?" He'll figure it out anyway, I think, but I have to lead her on.
"I promise!" She squeals.
"Thanks so much, Elizabeth." I say, walking away.
"No, thank you!" She yells.
