I reach out for her
She looks so familiar
I can see her heart break
Oh so clearly
The moment when she knew
When the argument went silent
When her universe shifted
The girl turns around
And there I am
16 and crushed
Why do I keep
Coming back to her
I'm never going to be her again
Never will I be so ignorant
Nor would I wish to relive her
But here we are
Face to face against the smoke
Reaching for each other in hopes
That the comfort of
Looking back
Or forward
In extremes
Would make a difference in
Our present
