I remember when every eyelash
Was a wish for you
Eyes closed as I take a deep breath
"You"
It's all I could think
All I could ever ask for.
There was never enough time.
One benefit of being abused your whole life
Is that you dissect every minuscule detail
I felt the distance before you put your walls up
The brick between us trapping friends on either side
And crushing those in between
I tried to push back,
Ripping the coarse hair from my lids
And begging
Pleading that everything was okay
"You"
I would cry to my sad little eyelashes,
Covered in runny makeup and salty water
"Please, you"
But I ran out of eyelashes.
And you ran out of love.
And we ran out of time.
