I slumped down into my seat and sighed as more and more kids began filing into the classroom. I prayed for something interesting to happen, but I knew that it wouldn't. Every day was the same- the teachers, the lessons the people- and it gets pretty tiring after months upon months of it. The buzz of noise outside the doors began to die down as the students went to their classes and I turned my attention to Ms Riggs who had only just appeared in the room. Tuning out her monotone voice, I began to get lost in my thoughts about love and friends and the hope that something could happen. Only when she started calling my name did I perk my head up and drag my focus back to the dull present.

"Did you sleep late, Miss L/N?" Ms Riggs asked in a semi-sarcastic voice that was echoed by snickers from other students.

"K-kinda.."

"Hm. Well, what I was trying to tell you was that the head wants to speak with you. Now. Let's hope you don't fall asleep on the way there."

Oh god. Oh no. What have I done now? Usually, you only got sent to the head if you were in trouble, and I dreaded the worst. I sighed louder than I expected to as I swung my bag over my shoulder and trudged out of the classroom.

When I reached his office, I stared at the doors for a moment and prepared myself for certain death. I exhaled as I knocked, my eyebrows knitting together in worry. That was until I opened the door to see the headteacher with a smile on his face.

A smile.

That was rare for Mr Kenway so I thanked the stars that I had not done anything bad. As I greeted him, my eyes wandered to a boy who looked to be around my age sitting in one of the chairs in front of Mr Kenway's desk. My E/C eyes met his brown ones and after a moment I swear I saw him wink. The head gestured towards a seat and took it, disappointed that I had to pull my eyes away from the boy. Wait. Y/N- what are you thinking? You don't even know this guy yet! He could-

"So, Miss L/N, I'd like you to meet our new student, Arno Dorian." I glanced at the boy to see him give a slight wave in my direction. "He's transferred to us from France! Isn't that exciting! Now, I have selected you to help Mister Dorian as he is new and isn't yet fluent in English. I trust you will accept?"

The words of agreement rolled off my tongue before I had a chance to stop them but I knew I couldn't refuse anyway. After the head spoke to us for a bit, Arno was given his timetable and we stepped outside. I could see him staring at me out the corner of my eye so I held out a hand for him to shake as I introduced myself.

"I'm Y/N...Y/N L/N and-" I felt him take my hand mid-sentence but I never expected him to lift it to his lips and plant a gentle kiss on it. My face grew hot and I mentally cursed myself as he chuckled lightly. I had been with him for no more than 15 seconds and I was already blushing. Ugh, this is so embarrassing...

"Nice to meet you, chérie" He smirked slightly, holding my hand to his face for a few seconds more. Yet again, I blushed as I reluctantly drew my hand away to take out his timetable. He was in nearly all of my classes...great. First was maths- something I was most definitely not looking forward to. After telling Arno, I turned to lead him to class when I heard him mutter something behind me. "Tu es très jolie.." I turned my head to look at him, but he just grinned and a hint of pink appeared on his cheeks like he was embarrassed that I heard.

The final bell rang, signalling the end of the day as students began filing out of the classrooms. Helping out with the new kid was fun, but he kept talking to himself and refusing to tell me what he said. I mean, I knew some French but it was still difficult to understand when he spoke so quietly. As I left my class and headed to my locker, I saw Arno walk past and something fell out of his hand. I jogged over to pick it up, but when I stood up again, I couldn't see him. "Maybe I should see what it is? In case it's important?" What I had expected to see was lesson notes or a timetable; what I did not expect to see was my name doodled over and over on the page. I stared at the page with confusion written on my face until I remembered that the hallways were becoming crowded. Filing out with the rest of the crowd, I resolved to bring it up tomorrow.
