I tossed and turned in my bed, listening to the gentle splash of the rain against my windowsill. Things have been stressing me out so much lately, I just haven't been able to sleep. My sister is sick, and they don't know whether she'll get better or not. My parent's business was going well, which means me and my siblings had to rely on each other because they'd be too busy. I'm sick and tired of having to look after everyone all the time.

And brother if you have the chance to pick me up?
And can I sleep on your couch to the pound of the ache and pain?

Finally, I decided I would get up because there was no chance of me sleeping anytime soon. I wrapped a cape around my figure and slipped some shoes on, so I could go for a walk to clear my head. Gently pulling the hood over my H/C hair, I ran out of the house and started to wander the streets in the dark. There weren't many people around, as it was late and the weather was terrible. Good, I can be alone for once now.

I won't sleep tonight as long as I still

Slowly, I made my way up to the hill where I liked to hang out alone. It was a place for me to relax without having to deal with things back at home. The only person who I would ever go there with is Ezio. We've been dating for a few months now and he knew how stressful things can get for me sometimes. I'm glad he understands how I feel and he's there for me to talk to when I'm feeling down. The rain started to beat down faster and harder onto the ground, collecting into little puddles around me. Breathing in, I managed to take in my surroundings and the tranquillity that I was still adjusting to.

Does anyone have the guts to shut me up?
'Cause I believe that every night

"Mio amore? What are you doing here?" A familiar voice called out from behind me. I turned around to see Ezio, standing a few feet behind me. "I couldn't sleep, too much to do," I mumbled, still looking at him. He smiled sympathetically and held out his hand to help me up. I gratefully accepted and he hoisted me up and pulled me into his arms. "There's so much I need to do," I said quietly, enjoying the embrace. "Just focus on now, Tesoro." He smiled.

'Cause the nights don't last
And we leave alone
Will you drive me back?
Can you take me home?

After a few more minutes wrapped up in the embrace we were sharing, I started to shiver. "Are you cold, bella?" Ezio asked. I nodded quickly and I felt him pick me up and start carrying me bridal-style. "Here, let me take you back to my house. You can stay with me tonight," he said, grinning. I pushed my soaked locks out of my eyes and smiled back at him. "I'd like that," I croaked, resting my head against his chest.

A little while later, we arrived at Ezio's house. He placed me down by the fire with a blanket while he went to go and get changed. He came back wearing a different pair of trousers with no shirt on. I was still wearing my nightdress under the cloak I had wrapped around me. Ezio came and sat with me by the fire, to warm him up. I hummed a little as he pulled me onto his lap. "I really love you, and I hope you know that."

Faces I don't know
I am tired in the glow
Of the freezing club

We all need this when we leave alone

More kisses were shared together, before we both headed to his bed. I slid into the left side of the bed, while he got into the right. I turned to face him and smiled. His deep brown eyes sparkled as he smiled back. I had never felt this way about anyone before, but I was enjoying it. It was moments like this that made it all come together. The little things: the flirting, the forehead kisses, sharing the bed. All the stress was worth it for these moments.

Remember when you and I would make things up?

I miss that sound

To the drums of the city rain

The rain was still pouring as we curled up into each other, taking in the sound and each other's scent. Ezio ran his hands gently through my hair, and kissed the top of my head. I smiled internally as I ran my finger in circles over his bicep. I felt safe, protected, loved. All the things I had longed to be before. For once, I could be the vulnerable one. Not the protector. The rain continued to fall as we both fell asleep.

I awoke in the middle of the night, confused as to where I was. After a little bit more looking around for hints. I glanced to my side and saw Ezio, curled up next to me. I smiled and rested my head on the pillow again. "Amore? Are you awake?" Ezio's groggy voice came out from beside me. "Si, but I'm going back to sleep now," I whispered. "Alright, I love you."

Like strangers laugh and like subways feel
Things I'm trying to break
Oh, just wait until this is all we have to keep us ill

In the morning, we both lied in. I woke up with my head on his chest, his heart gently thud. His arm was around my waist and he had me pulled close to his side. The rain had finally stopped, and it was quiet. Things were perfect.

I won't breathe tonight as long as I still hear the drums of the city rain
