Maia sat across from Namjoon at the dinner table. Neither of them spoke had spoken to each other at all, save the curt greetings in the morning. She noticed that her maker had an awful lot on his mind recently and there really wasn't anything she could do about it.

It must be his work, Maia concluded, It seems to be so stressful for him lately

All day, her young mind nulled over all the possible ways she could make Mr. Kim feel better yet she came to the rather disheartening conclusion that no matter what she did, she wouldn't be able to actually empathize. It wasn't that she couldn't feel emotion, she could, in fact, she felt most emotions stronger than humans. It was the fact that she hadn't worked a day in her life and she had read in a book that the best way to console another human being was to know how to relate to their plight. Maia sighed and poked at the half eaten beef stroganoff with her fork, creating a light ping sound each time the metal met the porcelain plate.

"You seem preoccupied Maia." Namjoon spoke to her for the first time since this morning, and it sent chills down her spine.

With joy of course.

"I'm preoccupied?" Maia laughed softly, craning her neck so she could see his face around the illuminated candlesticks, "You're the one who's locked themselves in their study for the past three days.

Namjoon's tongue poked the left side of his cheek as he contemplated what to say next. Knowing the inquisitive girl's nature, he would mostly likely not leave the dining hall without a few answers being forced out of him.

"I've been busy with my work."

"What kind of work?"

"None that you'd be good at."

Maia felt herself whither slightly at that comment, glancing back down at the food smeared plate. Namjoon was her creator, so naturally he would care for her, at least she assumed he did, but it was times like then she didn't feel it. He hurt her feelings, even if he hadn't meant to. But he knew how sensitive she was, so there was no possible way that he wouldn't know how his words affected her. When she made eye contact once more with the man across the table, all she saw were two steely, coal black eyes piercing back at her, there was a sort of patronizing look in them she had grown to despise. She wouldn't look away, not this time. When Namjoon saw this, a haughty smirk glimmered across his face, they both knew how this would end.

Maia, despite her pride telling her to keep up, she lowered her head in submission, as always. And as always, Namjoon would continue to bare his eyes into her until she apologized. For what she was apologizing, she never really could tell. In fact, she didn't even know what they were dueling over. It all just sort of happened.
