Chapter 1:- The Beginning Of the Journey.
Marceline and Seth, mentor and protege, arrive at the hotel to compete at their championship that Marcy wants to become a diplomat through and win the grand prize 250K dollars.
Chapter 2:- How Things Get Along.
Flashbacks on how Seth and Marceline first met at her library in Nottingham, as he was the only American in a British political class. Back to the present, Marceline gets warned about the winner being chosen by biased judging. Later on, Seth becomes the winner because of his wealthy political family, and Marceline believes that Seth has been using her, not knowing that he never had any intentions to do so. The next day, Marceline leaves to the airport without telling Seth, drops him a goodbye note, and resigns from any political practices as she throws away her sim card and gets a fresh start.
Chapter 3:- When It Rains, What It Rains.
After 6 months of Marceline resigning from political activities, she continues with private teaching classes at her bookshop. Seth shows up at Marceline's apartment and confronts her about his disturbance to her actions. She regrets the way she treated him, yet does not apologize for it. At a wedding, Marceline walks to a corner away from the wedding noise to enjoy her cigarette as she encounters a rude man who shows up at the bookshop the next day apologizing for his attitude. Kate, Marceline's British friend who lives in the States, shows up at Marceline's apartment after a fight with her American husband, Toby. As Marceline lectures Kate about her irresponsible act, Henry shows up at the door and invades the apartment to find Kate, who is his cousin's wife. Despite Toby's profession as a surgeon, Kate is secretly married to Toby as he doesn't want his political life to invade his personal life. The problem arises when Toby starts missing from his home as a husband and a father to his children, and when he refuses to announce his marriage publicly.
Chapter 4:- The Encounter.
Kate and Marceline discuss Henry's weird connection to his family, and how he doesn't like being known as a part of Toby's family. Henry shows up at the bookshop the next day to know more about Marceline. Henry and Marceline start sharing a few words to know more about each other until he persuades her to fly with Kate to the States. Marceline observes the villa that Kate lives in and tries not to stay with her but instead, stay at a hotel. From Beverly Hills to Riverside California, Marceline curiously drives to see where does Seth Bernard live at. As she walks, Seth walks towards her as she giggles at him wearing a cap in winter, right before an explosion takes place on the road.
Chapter 5:- Caps Off
Injured Marceline dozes on and off at the hospital after a terrorist explosion that was planned to hit the Bernard Mansion. After waking up from a short coma that lasted for 3 weeks, Marceline takes a walk with a nurse at the hospital to know that 50 people were injured, 3 were dead, including Seth.
Chapter 6:- Bunny Boo.
Suffering from PTSD, Marceline stays at Kate's house for a month and at Henry's for the second month, attached to 5 different medications to cut off her pain. Marceline starts lying about her diagnosis to escape from the States and go back home, Kate believes it while Henry does not, yet Marceline returns in November to witness Christmas decorations in Nottingham alone. Marceline realizes how her medications turned her into a cold unemotional body, who still had to deal with the triggers of PTSD. As she works back again at the bookshop, Marceline gets into alcoholism and meets a bartender, Sasha, who visits her angrily the next day at the workshop because of how Marceline leaves her tips to drag her to the bookshop. Marceline and Sasha exchange words as Marceline finds herself dominating Sasha and falling for her in her way, despite the differences that they share in personalities. Sasha starts helping Marceline in her bookshop work with the guests and then leaves for her night shift at the bar, accepting Marceline's invitation to her apartment. In an empty apartment, Sasha and Marceline enjoy pizza and drinks, as Marceline shows Sasha the new apartment she's moving to through the window. Sasha shares how her parents forced her to leave them and seek bigger opportunities ahead to become literate and independent. Marceline proposes an opportunity for Sasha in the bookshop to give educational classes, as Marceline will be moving to a full-time Doctor in Law and Politics.
Chapter 7:- Apartments.
(Description of the Apartments is included in ITALICS)Marceline and Sasha build a strong and warm friendship, as Marceline starts furnishing Sasha's apartment as a surprise. Marceline drops a letter of invitation on Christmas night at her new house on Sasha's table and explains that she will disappear three days before Christmas. Marceline stays over at Sasha's apartment and watches Sasha arrange the new wardrobe that Marceline got her as she feels peacefully attached to Sasha. After 3 full days, on the 24th, Marceline goes back to check on Sasha and enjoys dinner and drinks through the night.
Chapter 8:- Drunk Dialogue.
After getting drunk at Sasha's apartment, Sasha and Marceline confess their love to each other, speak about Seth's death, discuss the medication to control PTSD, talk about Henry and the financial support Marceline believes is getting from him, and then hit the hay together.
Chapter 9:- Merry Christmas.
On Christmas, Sasha goes to the bookshop and Marceline gets busy with submitting documents at her workplace, then goes to get a fresh haircut. She finds a box on her doorstep that is from an anonymous sender, which includes a light blue flowery scarf. Sasha enjoys dinner and presents at Marceline's new apartment, and understands the differences in Marceline's character after the explosion. The next day, Marceline and Sasha go to London to spend the whole day there. After spending the whole night there, Marceline drops Sasha the next morning at the bookshop, while she continues to her apartment. As she gets ready, she finds out that Henry is on her doorstep.
Chapter 10:- Hit The Cliff.
Nervous birthday girl Marceline tries to understand the reason behind Henry's visit, to figure out that Henry isn't the same Henry Costa that has been funding her, nor is Toby's cousin. She figures out the darkest secrets of Henry, whose real name is Scott Costa. Marceline confesses to Henry that she is in a relationship, as he confesses his love to her. Puzzled Henry accepts her truth, knowing that the accident still affected her in a way.
