Chapter 1: TYLER
I was excited to start my first day at the Abby Lee Dance Company. It had a great reputation, and it could really help me get my name out there. I was a little sad to leave my family behind, but I knew they were doing the right thing by sending me to Pittsburg. I needed to get away and focus on myself, and I hope dancing for Abby does the trick.
I pulled up to the studio with a few of the other dancers staying with Abby in the scholarship program, Ben, Danny, and Luke. It was good to have other people around that were all in the same boat, and most of them were actually pretty cool. Right when we walked in, Abby was waiting for us. She decided to start things out by giving us a tour, and letting us watch some of the classes that were going on. We were watching the senior company we were going to join when I saw her. She was running through the routine just like everyone else, but I could only see her. Something about how effortlessly she danced, or how breathtakingly beautiful she was.
I gave Luke a shove, “hey who is that?” I asked.
“Her?” Luke asked, pointing to the beautiful girl.
I nodded.
“That’s Brooke Hyland. She’s basically the best dancer here, and Abby’s favorite. But usually she practices with the competition team. Why do you ask?’ Luke finished, flashing me a quick smile.
“No reason, she’s just pretty cute.” I said, smiling back.
“Trust me, you’re not the only one who thinks so.” Luke said
“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.
“Almost every guy in this studio is in love with that girl.” He explained
“Oh,” I said, “so she has a boyfriend then?” I asked
“No,” Luke answered, “she dated this one dancer here, Brandon, a while ago, but broke up with him because he was too serious about her. She doesn’t really get attached to boys.”
“Well that’s not good” I said, smiling to myself.
“Why, you think you have a shot?” Luke asked laughing.
I just flashed a smile and continued watching her dance. I still couldn’t believe how flawless she was. I had to know this girl…
Eventually Abby set us up in Studio C and we got to work. Nothing too hard, but she definitely wasn’t going easy on us our first day. I heard a group of dancers enter the studio as we were running through a few moves. Abby barked at us to stop. I turned and there she was again. This time, Brooke was with a group of younger girls. Everyone became silent and looked to Abby, but I couldn’t stop staring at her.
“Now everyone, this is my elite competition team. These are the girls who travel to a new competition every week, and learn a new routine each week. I wanted to introduce you because a few of you will be getting the opportunity to travel with, and work with this team…but only the best.” Abby said.
Everyone looked at each other and couldn’t really believe that these little girls were capable of being that committed to dance. It was almost like Abby could sense this.
“Some of you are brand new here, and don’t really understand yet what I expect from a competition dancer, so the girls are going to perform the routine they are competing with this weekend.” Abby said
