I placed my arm over my forehead. Trying to block the sunlight from my view. Summers in California can get pretty hot. I let out an exhausted groan as we leaned up against this tree located in Michael's huge backyard.

Looking over to my right, Michael sipped on his ice-cold lemonade. He noticed me looking at him. "What?" He asked.

"I'm hoooott. And watching you drink that lemonade is making me thirsty! I drank all of mine," I pouted, dropping my arms to my sides.

"Then go get some more," he giggled.

"My legs are melted to the ground. I don't think that's happening."

Michael just shrugged and continued to sip on his lemonade.

I quieted down for a little while just thinking about stuff. Sure it may be hot, but the weather is amazing. I'd take this over a cold winter any day.

_____

Michael and I were now walking around his backyard. That's when I got an idea.

We were pretty close to the pool, so the little devil on my shoulder told me to push Michael in the water.

Just for fun, ya know? :)

I bumped hips with him and he toppled over into the water. The sound of splashes could be heard as his body smacked the water.

Once he snapped out of his state of shock and resurfaced to the top he shouted "What was that for?"

I shrugged as a small grin crept up on my face. "Just for funsies."

He didn't look amused. So, feeling a little bad I stuck my hand out for him to grab onto.

He grabbed onto it alright, and pulled me right in with him!

I flipped over into the water and gasped for air as I came up.

"Michael!"

"Just for funsises right?" He shrugged and gave a smile.

I smiled and splashed the water in his face. He did the same. And soon we began a little water fight.

"Alright! Quit it!" I screeched.

Michael threw water in my face one more time before he stopped. I stuck my tongue out at him and he did the same.

"Okay, I think we should get out now," Michael said.

"Yeah."

_____

I squeezed out the water in my hair and shirt. A little annoyed that I was wet now.

Michael saw the look on my face. "Hey. Don't be mad at me, this was your fault."

I chuckled a little. "Whatever Mike."

"Hey, let's race to that tree over there," Michael pointed to a lemon tree that sat a little ways away from us.

"You're on," I said.

Mike and I stood side by side in position as I counted down to 3.

"One...two...

"Three!" He screamed and took off before I could finish.

"Hey!"

I took off and ran as fast as I could. The cool yet warm breeze felt kinda good against my wet body. Glancing up, Michael was still ahead of me. I huffed and squeezed my eyes real tight, and with all my might, I ran even faster. I opened my eyes and looked to my side. Michael was now behind. Yes!

He desperately tried to pick up the speed but I was going too fast to stop now.

I slammed my hand onto the trunk of the lemon tree and leaned over to catch my breath. "I-I won!" I heaved.

Michael slowed down and dropped to the ground, placing a hand over his eyes. The both of us panting heavily.

"You're fast," He said and gave me a tired smile.

I laughed. "Thanks. I didn't even know I could run that quick,"

_____

We were now sitting against the tree like before. The sun striking me in the face as the birds fluttered through the sky.

I looked down at Michael's hand that rested upon the shamrock-colored grass. Slowly I moved mine over to his and took hold of it.

Michael turned towards me and smiled as he grasped my hand.

I sighed with content as I looked towards the sky.

"You know Mike," He faced me after he heard his name. "You remind me of the sun. You're always there, and you shine bright. Reminding me that everything is gonna be alright as long as we're together."

Michael's face glowed with happiness as he clutched my hand a little harder. In a loving way. Letting me know he'll always be there.

"You're adorable," He giggled.

My sunny boy.
